What If? by Randall Munroe
Amazon:"From the creator of the webcomic xkcd, hilarious and informative answers to important questions you probably never thought to ask."
I'm buying this book for my son who didn't want me to return it to the library!
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
This is a murder mystery of sorts, with an unique young detective.
“Moving. . . . Think of The Sound and the Fury crossed with The Catcher in the Rye and one of Oliver Sacks’s real-life stories.” —Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times
The Book Thief
“Brilliant and hugely ambitious…It’s the kind of book that can be life-changing, because without ever denying the essential amorality and randomness of the natural order, The Book Thief offers us a believable hard-won hope…The hope we see in Liesel is unassailable, the kind you can hang on to in the midst of poverty and war and violence. ” -New York Times, May 14, 2006
December Events
Don't miss our STAR WARS book exhibit, either. We have quite an assortment of vintage comic books and novels inspired by the iconic movies. Soak up Star Wars lore before the new movie arrives! If you have artwork or memorabilia that you would like to contribute to our exhibit, let Ms. Bryson know.
Library Update
Need to save your work in a flash? The library is selling 8GB flash drives with a snazzy Carter Spirit Wristband design for just $10 while supplies last. See Mrs. Bryson to get yours today!
Have you tried out the district's new subscription database yet? Go to wwwproquest.com to give it a spin. The username is 28-26821 and the password is bigchalk. Then, be sure to sign up on My Learning Plan for the district training on Dec. 3rd from 3:15 PM to 5:00 PM. If you would like training for your students, contact Mrs. Bryson at extension 28147.
The library has received nine new computers "on loan" until the school or county comes up with a plan to restore the computers that were removed by the district. Luckily, they work beautifully!
Please contact Miss V at extension 28152 to reserve library time for your classes and small groups, whether it be for computer use or book browsing. You may also send one student at a time on a pass throughout the day, except during 4th period. (We need to eat, too!)
We look forward to seeing you and your students at the library!
