A Note from Dr. Brown
Greetings Parents and Guardians!
It’s been another great week here at Woodward Mill Elementary School! Students are arriving with smiles and joy–ready for a new day of learning. We are so humbled to service your child’s educational needs. Thank you.
Please remember to check our calendar! We have some great things coming up for our Cubs! Also please remember that attendance is very important. September is attendance month. See the announcement from our counselors. If you need more information or guidance in reference to attendance, please contact your grade level counselor. Please ensure that your child is here daily (unless ill) and on time. When our cubs are absent, tardy, or checked out frequently, they miss valuable instructional time. Thank you for your support.
Gentle reminder that school hours are:
Student Arrival: 7:45AM-8:15AM
Tardy Bell: 8:15AM
Dismissal Bell: 2:40PM
Best Regards and have a great weekend!
Dr. Sonya Brown

Lifelines Prevention- 5th Grade
Fifth grade parents, a letter providing information about the Lifelines Prevention Curriculum is in your child’s Friday Folder. Please review the letter so that you have this important information. The letter will provide instructions on the curriculum, and give instructions on how to opt-out if needed.
Attendance Awareness Month
Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. But, we also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. When students are not at school, they are missing valuable instructional time.
Here are some things you as a parent can do to help improve your child’s attendance:
Talk with your child about what happened at school each day. The more interested in school you are, the more they will be!
Set a bedtime and morning routine so that your child is well-rested and ready for school.
Wait to take family trips until school holidays or summer break.

Emmanuel's Dream by Laurie Ann Thompson & Sean Qualls
This true story tells the story of Emmanuel, who was born in Ghana, West Africa. Dismissed by most people because of his deformed leg, he is encouraged to pursue his dreams by his mother. As a result of her love and encouragement, he hops more than two miles each way to school, learns to play soccer, and eventually becomes a cyclist. Emmanuel's powerful message is this: disability is not inability. An inspirational story for every child about overcoming adversity and obstacles.
