Outcomes:
Describe what constitutes bullying in schools, what it looks like and feels like.
- Describe how laws related to bullying, and their impacts how educators respond to bullying situations.
- Understand the importance of “empowering the bystander” to become an “upstander” in bullying situations and how this can increase “positivity” in schools.
- Describe how “empowering students to lead” has been used effectively to decrease bullying incidents and increase positivity in the school culture..
- Promote whole school engagement in common of bullying prevention.
- Leave the Round Table discussion with a variety of tools that will help schools build a “bullying free” culture that is respectful, kind and “upstanding”
Schedule
9:00 am - 12:30 pm: Morning Session: Overview of “bullying”, the transition to urgency and the need for prevention.
12:00-12:30 pm: Working Lunch at SERESC
12:30-3:15 pm: Afternoon session: Review of programs that have successfully empowered students to become “upstanders” in their schools; references to practices that were not helpful in prevent bullying as well as those that have worked well.
Round Table Leader: Percy Hill, Educational Leadership Consultant
Percy Hill has served as an educator for many years in different capacities and has received many awards. His outstanding efforts in efforts to prevent bullying were highlighted in 2011 when during his tenure as Assistant Principal in the Kearsarge School District, the Kearsarge Student Leaders were honored by the State Of New Hampshire to receive the “SPIRIT OF NEW HAMPSHIRE OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER CHAMPION AWARD” for their efforts with bully prevention education in the Kearsarge School District. Governor John Lynch and the New Hampshire House of Representatives followed with a CITATION congratulating Percy Hill and the KEARSARGE STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM for their efforts to educate others about BULLY PREVENTION in schools. In February of 2012, Percy Hill and the Kearsarge Student Leaders received NATIONAL RECOGNITION from the NATIONAL SCHOOL SAFETY ADVOCACY COUNCIL as the recipient of the program award recognition for OUTSTANDING ANTIBULLYING EFFORTS AND COMMITMENT TO KEEPING STUDENTS SAFE.
Other awards during Percy Hill’s career include:
- New Hampshire Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NHAHPERD) “MERIT AWARD” (1994);
- MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR (1997);
- National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) TEACHER OF THE YEAR for New Hampshire (1999);
- Proclamation for “EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION” from the Governor of New Hampshire and the House of Representatives (2000 and 2012);
- “DISNEY AMERICAN TEACHER AWARD”(2000);
- ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR (2008);
- New Hampshire EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD (2008).
Percy continues his work in education, most recently as as an adjunct faculty member at New England College in Henniker, NH and as part time Assistant Principal at Ellis School in Fremont, NH for the 2015- 2016 school year.

**Refunds will not be given if the request is received less than 7 days prior to the event.
