Welcome to the 21st Century

Welcome to our new Digital Newsletter. I hope you will enjoy this form of communication regarding classroom activities. I will still make posts on Facebook and via Twitter to also share items of interest on a daily basis but will follow up with a weekly recap of the exciting things happening in our classroom.

Week in Review - September 21-25 and Upcoming Events

"Oh the places you'll go, Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So...Get on your way!"

---Dr. Seuss

This week was busy as we prepared for Open House. We finished up our "What I Did This Summer" writing, added tadpoles to our Pond Ecosystems plus we had two athletes visit us from Missouri State on Wednesday to read books and talk to us. We also had a Social Studies test, a Math test and a Spelling test!

On Friday, we had our end-of-month assembly and celebrated our Super Hero students, September birthdays as well as students with good attendance. What an exciting way to end the week and the month!

This past week we changed how we are doing Math homework. We will only have math homework on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. There are times it may not come home on those days but it will never come home on Tuesday or Friday. Your student will now bring home a stapled packet that includes the whole class and independent work they did that day. They are to do the homework page and then return the entire packet the next day. I'm home by bringing home the in class pages it will help eliminate any confusion on what they are supposed to be doing.

This coming week we are going to change up how we do spelling. On Monday, the students will all receive their new list of words and will continue to sort their words to learn the word patterns we are studying. Instead of a written test on Friday, they will spend the week writing down their twelve words along with its definition. On Friday, they will turn in their 12 words and definitions for their spelling grade for the week. This will help them to learn the meanings of the words as well as how to use a dictionary. I think it will be a win-win and take spelling to a new level. I read this interesting article in which I am basing my changes on - I welcome your thoughts as well. Here is the article: "Why some kids can't spell and spelling tests won't help."

Many of you signed up for a parent/teacher conference at Open House. I will be contacting those who were not able to and then will send reminders when we get closer to that week.
