Science and Social Studies This Month

This month in Science we will be discussing the needs of plants. Ask your child what would happen if our basic needs weren't met such as: food, water, shelter, and oxygen.

In Social Studies we will begin goods and services.

Math This Month

This month we will begin Unit 6: Understanding Shapes and Fractions. Words in BOLD are the most important vocabulary and topics covered in this unit.

Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.

Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
