Weekly Reminders April 11-15

Raven Homeschool, Juneau Office

A Note from your Teacher

Even though the state cancelled the AMP testing this year, our K-2 students still need to come in to Raven and do a quick literacy readiness screening, which will only take about 10-15 minutes. If you have a student in that age range, please call or email me to set up an appointment time this month for the AIMSweb Early Literacy assessment. Thanks in advance and have a wonderful weekend. We might have a sunny one :-) ~Joan

Thank you to everyone who has submitted their Q3 Progress Reports. I am enjoying reviewing all of them. This weekend I am traveling to Anchorage to become a certified Schwinn cycling instructor. Next week I will be in the office Tues-Fri. ~Theresa

There are great incentive prizes that can be won for early enrollment, so be sure to increase your probability of winning by enrolling now. Our goal is to have all currently enrolled families re-enrolled by June 30 or ready to be exited if they are moving, changing schools, etc.

Here's an update on our progress for our office:

~Currently enrolled students 15-16: 209

~Enrolled students for 16-17: 75

Let's see how much we can increase that number by next week! :)

DIPAC Sea Week Mollusk Program

Friday, April 15th, 10:15-11:45am

2697 Channel Drive

Juneau, AK

Students K–3rd grade are invited to join us at DIPAC for some awesome hands-on learning activities about mollusks. Please RSVP below or to juneau@yksd.com by April 11 since Rich Mattson needs to know how many students to expect. (We currently only have one family on the list to attend.)

Below is a note from Rich Mattson about a number of resources that he has shared with us to help families who are teaching about Sea Week. Click here to get access to all the excellent bolded items he mentions in the note below.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

Hi All,

Welcome - we look forward to your upcoming visit to DIPAC for our annual Sea Week program that we host. To assist in your planning for our visit and for other Sea Week related activities, I am attaching several files that I hope you’ll find helpful in preparation. The welcome sheet and teaching outline lays out the scope of our program for your visit and I’ve also included a copy of the mollusk song that we sing at the end of the session to reinforce the lesson on mollusk feeding. Also included are a couple of mollusk fact sheets and an activities sheet, which provides pre- and post-visit activity ideas. A beach walk brochure and a life on the beach guide from Alaska Sea Grant program is included to assist planning for your Sea Week beach trip. A teacher resource sheet lists various internet sites and links that provide information on mollusks, marine ecology and beach walks, and general marine education resource sites.

Thanks so much and we look forward to your visit.

Yours in science,
