Jessica Duke '13

As a student at MHS, Jessie Duke was involved in National Honor Society, Future and Community Problem Solving, Digital Media, Freshman Advisory, and softball. After graduating MHS in the class of 2013, Jessie went to the University of Southern California to study film and stories as a way to understand people. Jessie used film to explore the illness & healing journey and created a documentary on alternative healing therapies and the power of food.

After college, Jessie became the Director of Community at Summit Series, a global community of entrepreneurs, artists, activists, investors, all committed to bettering the world. She spearheaded an impressive initiative to educate the community on the power of eating one plant-based meal a day organizing over 16,000 plant-based meals. After Summit, she joined a philanthropic educational tech company to connect high schoolers with volunteer opportunities. Today, eight years after her graduation from MHS, she is running her own company, selling indigenous grown Ceremonial Cacao and supporting the planting of cacao trees in the Amazon Rainforest.

Jesse’s message was to our students was to follow their interests, to let curiosity guide them, to not limit themselves by the way things “should” look or “should” be… their paths are much bigger and more expansive than what they could even imagine. She urged them to follow their passions and share their special talents. Here is Jessie Duke with the story of her path since high school….

After Mahwah I moved to Croatia and continued my studies at Rochester Institute of Technology RIT Croatia - Dubrovnik, where I have been living for 5 and now going on 6 years. I graduated in 2020 and moved back to Island Mljet, one of the last islands along the Adriatic Coast, which is where my mother is from. This is where I am grateful to be isolated from the world since the start of Covid-19. My lifestyle there is resembles a one of an island girl. I go fishing and then sell the fish to passing tourist in search for a place to eat and sleep. I together with my family once they come to visit run an old fashion boarding house where you can expect to get the most fresh fish caught each morning by yours truly ;) . Hopefully the Covid will finally come to an end so people can normally travel from country to country because after a while it starts to get lonely with no tourists around.

Kyle Mikolajczyk Named to Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Spring 2021 Dean's List

June 24, 2021

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that Kyle Mikolajczyk, a member of the class of 22 majoring in Computer Science, was named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the spring 2021 semester.

A total of 2,148 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI's spring 2021 Dean's List. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

"WPI's academic programs are rigorous and require a level of independence beyond what is required in traditional courses. WPI students work on open-ended problems for communities around the world. The problems are important and the impact is real" said dean of undergraduate studies Arthur C. Heinricher. "Some of this nation's best and brightest students come to WPI to study engineering and science and business and the humanities. Those named to the Dean's List have excelled in all of their work, and we are exceptionally proud of these outstanding students."

About Worcester Polytechnic Institute

WPI, a global leader in project-based learning, is a distinctive, top-tier technological university founded in 1865 on the principle that students learn most effectively by applying the theory learned in the classroom to the practice of solving real-world problems. Recognized by the National Academy of Engineering with the 2016 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education, WPI's pioneering project-based curriculum engages undergraduates in solving important scientific, technological, and societal problems throughout their education and at more than 50 project centers around the world. WPI offers more than 70 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs across 17 academic departments in science, engineering, technology, business, the social sciences, and the humanities and arts. Its faculty and students pursue groundbreaking research to meet ongoing challenges in health and biotechnology; robotics and the internet of things; advanced materials and manufacturing; cyber, data, and security systems; learning science; and more. www.wpi.edu
