A Message from Ms. Butler
Dear Woodlands Classical Academy Families,
I would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of the men and women who bravely serve in our military. Freedom isn't free. It is because of the brave men and women of our US Military that provide us with the freedoms we so richly enjoy. Although I have never served in the military, I come from a military family. My grandfather served in the Army during World War II, my uncle served in the Navy during Desert Storm, my brother and sister-in-law found love in the Navy, and my sister is actively serving in Air Force. I have always been so proud of my family when we went to military events with them. The sense of pride and honor that exudes from serving our country is proudly displayed. It fills us with so much pride that we can give back to our Veterans.
Veteran's Day
One of the challenges of this year is reimagining our traditional events. One of our favorite events at TWCA is our Veteran's Day breakfast. Since we are a closed campus this year, we will not be able to host our breakfast; however, we will still honor our veterans. We would like for you to submit your veteran's photos to Mrs. Dowell via email (sdowell@responsiveed.com) by Tuesday, November 10, 2020 by 4:30 pm. Please submit the following information:
- your veteran's name
- your child(ren)'s name and grade
- branch of the military served
- your veteran's rank upon leaving the military
Staff Update
I would like to welcome Mrs. Naomi Melendez to the TWCA family. Mrs. Melendez is our new Dyslexia teacher.
COVID-19 Update
I know that this has been an unsettling week with the number of COVID-19 notifications that have been going out. We are doing our best to keep our scholars and staff safe; however, we do need your assistance.
- If your child is showing symptoms listed on the daily screener, please keep them at home.
- If you have multiple children on-campus and you suspect one of them may have contracted COVID-19, it's imperative that all of your children remain at home until you receive a negative confirmation.
- If you suspect someone in your home has contracted COVID-19, your children should remain at home until you receive a negative confirmation.
COVID-19 Protocol
If your child has come into close contact (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes with/without a mask within a 24 hour period) with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 at TWCA,
- You will receive a phone call from Nurse Kennerly or myself
- You will receive a follow-up letter via JupiterEd and email from me
- You will receive information from your child's teacher regarding attending online classes.
- A notification will be sent out to the entire school that someone has tested positive via ParentSquare.
Progress Reports
We are at the 4 1/2 week mark of the 2nd-9 Weeks. Progress reports will be sent out via JupiterEd on Thursday. Teachers have begun sending out updates on missing work. Please ensure that your child is getting their assignments completed and turned-in on time. You can check JupiterEd now to check your child's progress. See the video below for more information.
No Early Release on November 20
In the past, we have had Early Release the day before Thanksgiving Break; however, this year we will be in class for the entire day. We only have two Early Release days this year, Friday, December 18 and Wednesday, May 26.
That's all of the announcements for this week. I want to thank you for your continued patience with us as we navigate these uncertain times together.
Sincerely,
Roxana L. Butler, Campus Director

COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines
Face Covering Guidance--Moderate Level
Based on county COVID-19 activity levels, our campus will adopt the protective measures found under "Moderate Activity" in our ResponsiveEd COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines this week (11/9-11/13): responsiveed.com/covid-19.
Among other practices, this means that students in grades PK-2 will wear face coverings as feasible in hallways, common areas, and during arrival and dismissal. Students in grades 3-12 will wear face coverings as feasible, especially when social distancing is difficult, including in classrooms. Thank you for your partnership in the safety of the students and staff on our campus.

New Student Enrollment and Re-Enrollment for Current Families
On Monday, November 2, families of students not enrolled on our campus can apply for the 2021-22 school year. If you have a child who attends another school or if you know someone who might be interested in our school, this is the start of the enrollment process. As a reminder, students do not need to qualify to attend our school. We are an open-enrollment public school of choice and the application only requires basic contact information.
If the number of new student applications exceeds the number of students we can accept, students will be selected by a random selection lottery held in late January. The deadline to apply is January 15 but don’t wait! Complete the application for your unenrolled child or tell your friends and family to apply now.
This application is only for students not currently enrolled at our campus. Families of currently enrolled students will be able to officially express their intention to return and secure their spot for the 2021-22 school year during re-enrollment, which begins on December 7. A calendar of enrollment milestones can be found below.

November Character Virtue--Honor
Honor
Living by the virtues, showing great respect for yourself, other people, and the rules you live by. When you are honorable, you keep your word
Five Keys to Building Reputation of HONOR
1.) Be Careful What You Promise:
The value you place on your commitments will determine your Honor. Recognize what your words mean to others, and keep your word, even if circumstances make it difficult.
2.) Clarify Expectations:
Know your everyday responsibilities at school, and identify the responsibilities that come with your roles as a student or friend.
3.) Get It Done:
Good intentions will not make you honorable. Take the initiative to work through the difficulties you encounter along the way.
4.) Correct Mistakes:
A person of honor will recognize mistakes and take responsibility to correct them, even if no one else notices the problem.
5.) Have A Good Attitude:
Few things create organizational drag like students or staff who whine when something needs to be done that requires more than anticipated. When situation changes or others make unexpected demands, do not make the problem worse by complaining. Overcome the new challenges and do what needs to be done.
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Understanding the Habit
Put First Things First means to decide what is most important and to take care of that first. Thinking about what needs to be done tomorrow or by the end of the week can be overwhelming, especially for children. Learning to think of which things are the most important and taking care of them first allows children to be less stressed.
Habit 3: A Family Exercise in Putting First Things First
Habit 3®: Put First Things First, is a habit about priorities. We all juggle multiple hats in our lives, whether it be professional or personal, we need to develop habits that help us manage the day-to-day. Habit 3 talks in-depth about “Big Rocks” and “Little Rocks” in our lives.
“Big Rocks” are the most important things for you to do, such as spending time with your family or getting an education. “Little Rocks” are the less important things for you to do, such as watching T.V., or aimlessly searching the Internet.
So, whether Habit 3 is new to you, or engraved in your memory, let’s take a moment to reflect on this habit. For me, Habit 3 means making time for my family. As you read, take the time to reflect on what Habit 3 means to you. What do Habit 1 and Habit 2 mean to you?
