The building of communism in china

What is communism ?

Communism is the idea of a classless society. Everyone is equal and nobody owns anything. Everyone gets that same amount of money, they get equal proportions of everything.

Communism in china

Mao Zedong and the long march

Mao Zedong is "The father of communism". The long march was when Mao Zedong and his followers got kicked out of china so the marched out. On the way Mao Zedong gained lots and lots of followers. This is connected to the spread of communism because more and more people where starting to support communism.

The Great Leap Forward

The Great Leap Forward was when china was already communism and Mao Zedong thought that it was a great time to improve on economy , so he took farmers and put them in factories. But this didn't end well because farmer weren't producing food so people started to die of starvation. So Mao decided to end the great leap forward. this connects to the spread to communism because Mao Zedong wanted to show his people that having a communism way of government isn't so bad so he tried to have the best economy, but when he saw it wasn't going to well,he stopped. he also stopped because people started to question if communism was the right way to go.

The Cultural Revolution

The Cultural Revolution was when Mao Zedong wanted to change the traditions and customs of the people. he wanted the people to only think about communist ways instead of democratic ways of the far east. This connects to the spread of communism because Mao Zedong basically wanted to brain wash china's people so they only thought about communism.

Tiananmen square

Tiananmen square was when thousands of people, who were protesting against communism, got killed by the Red army. This connects to the spread of communism because it showed the chines people that communism WILL be their government type and this event scared many scared them so much that some people didn't want to be killed so they just accepted communism and stopped protesting.

Containment of Communism

Korean War

The Korean War started on June 25, 1950. North Korea invade South Korea in order to unit the whole country as one and be under communist rule. The united states where on South Korea's side. by October 1950 the U.N took control of Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. But by the end of October the Chinese army forced the U.N out of North Korea. On July 27, 1953 an agreement was signed in Panmunjom along the 38th parallel , and this is where the division of Korea is. This war was for the containment of communism because the United States was afraid that communism would spread to surrounding countries.

Vietnam War

The Vietnam war was caused because the North wanted the South to become communism too. The U.S was on southern Vietnamese side.president Eisenhower felt US presence was needed in order for south Vietnam to stay communist free. The north troops started using the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This was a path that connected north and south Vietnam using Laos and Cambodia. It allowed southern and northern troops/people to switch sides if they wanted to. The US then bombed this path, this caused Vietnamese people to not like the US, the more we bombed the more people sided with the Viet Cong. In 1976 the north and the south came together and formed the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The US was afraid that north Vietnam would try to get other countries to become communist so we (the US) got involved to try and keep it only in North Vietnam.

Did the Containment of Communism work ?

i think the containment of communism DID work because only 5 countries in the world are communism and 4 of those countries are in Asia. So the US only kept it in one particular place. communism didn't spread to the rest of the world so I think the united states did a pretty good job at keeping it in one place. So i do think containment of communism did work.
