What is Global Connections?

Global Connections is Smith's flagship event which brings Smith families together to explore, inspire and have FUN while learning more about our richly diverse community. Our evening event is Nov 8, 6-8pm. For two hours, our building will explode with cultural performances, foods and interactive exhibits. Ethnic foods will be served in the cafeteria along with tasty desserts from France, Belgium and Spain on the elective hall. Please consider sharing your (or your family's ) culture that evening. It can be as simple as a table set up in the hallway with cultural artifacts and taste-treats to a full classroom of music, dance and/or activities to engage students and their parents in a cultural activity. We encourage you to attend in cultural attire. All the French classes will be preparing for this special event. Proceeds from the French café and Salon de Thé will help offset teacher chaperone expenses for this year's Belgian Exchange.

NC to Normandy 2019

The projects keep growing as six high school students are fund-raising to bring one or two "hidden figures" of WWII back to the lands they liberated. Mr. Carter and I are their teacher sponsors. The students are raising $10,000 to bring two veterans and their family member to Normandy for the 75th commemoration ceremonies. If you would like to help these students realize their dream, please email me or Mr. Carter. rmcmahon@chccs.k12.nc.us

These students will have an exhibit on Global Connections night on the 8th grade hall. This video, NC to Normandy 2014, is what inspired our former Smith students.Donations can be made to the Public School Foundation (501c3) with NC to Normandy in comment line.
