Monday Message
The Value of the Home -School Connection
Dear MS Family,
Research shows that a strong home-school connection can make a significant difference for a child. Many of our children may not have the support and resources they need to maximize their learning potential. Finding ways to empower parents so they are able to support their children at home is key. Using tools like Remind (https://www.remind.com/) and Class Messenger (https://www.classmessenger.com/) help keep parents informed about what they need to know to support their child.
Ma'Kaila's teacher uses Remind and it has been a valuable resource for me. Every night - I ask Ma'Kaila what is due for the next day. When she tells me, "nothing" or that "it's all done" - I ask her to show it to me. I know exactly what I am looking for. It has made the difference for me in helping her be successful; I am able to help her be more independent because I know what she needs and can help her get there. Most often I think that I would not have to do this when she's in MS, but I see that both children will need me more when they enter MS than they do now. As the many outside forces fight for their attention - I'll need to be more vigilant about helping them stay focused.
When I think about what our Bay Shore MS students, I see that they want to be successful too. To do that - they need every opportunity they can get - and having their parents know exactly what they need, or are missing, will be one way to do just that.

This target is specific to the what and how. Students know what is to be learned and how they can gauge their success in the lesson.

An added bonus comes when the technology makes our lives as educators a little bit easier.
With parent teacher conferences upon us, communicating with all parents is essential to the success of our children. Finding someone to translate to our families can be difficult. There are two applications that will make communicating a push of a button!

Not only can you write and say what you would like share, but you can also immediately translate any document. By holding the camera up to any written text - you can instantly watch it translate into the selected language.
