Do Good Work, Be a Friend, Every Day - April 6th, 2020
Principal's Message
Routines - help keep normalcy.
Today starts the the fifth week without having seen each other at school.
While we needed a break, Spring Break, we did not need a global pandemic to change our daily grind. If you had asked me back in January if I thought this could happen, I probably would have told you something about modern medicine, technology, and work efficiency keeping dangers at bay.
How are your routines?
- Do your children have scheduled bed-time and wake-up times?
- Do you eat at regular intervals?
- Are your children socializing and getting out into our Spring sunshine?
Updates:
- Essential staff at school have given over 60 Chromebooks to families for Remote Learning. Scores of student 'Go Bags' have been given to parents and some delivered directly to family homes. Free food for students is passed out to countless kids every week day. Our Pick-up and Food services are weekdays, 9-11am.
- Chromebooks and Textbooks need the completed forms submitted to the teacher. These items are picked up from the gym entrance, 9-11am. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Today, teachers are sharing 'Week 2' of their Distance Delivery Education. While academics are focussed on the 3 Rs, countless enrichment opportunities abound for our students.
- One such challenge was the Favorite Reading Spot. Another was the Plank Challenge, a video worth watching on Facebook.
- Join us outside on your doorsteps for the Pledge of Allegiance, Tuesday, at 8:40am. Some of you will hear the Pledge over our outdoor school speakers.
Speaking of choice, Encore selection will begin this week. On Wednesday, Intermediate students should receive their Encore Catalog and directions for choosing their Encores for school year 2020-2021. Tuesday, April 14th, staff will start calling families to schedule student Encores for next year. We do start with the older students and work our way down to Third Grade.
Welcome to Tammy Steiner, our newest counselor. Her position takes our counseling services to a richer and higher level, a much needed offering. She joins our school counseling team who are ready to serve your needs. The counseling department includes Debbie Stephenson our MFLC and Kate LaSota our school counselor. Counselor Corner
Hello Families,
I hope you are finding some positive sides to these challenging times! Perspective taking to see different points of view is very helpful in regulating emotions and problem solving. If we get stuck seeing or feeling one way, then we can remind ourselves to explore around the trouble with brainstorming.
There are many people through our school that would like to help you. I can be reached through my email to set up a phone, Google meet, or Zoom meeting. I am available 8:30-2:00 every weekday at kate.lasota@k12northstar.organd spontaneous meetings are welcomed.
Debi Stephenson our MFLC (Military Family Life Counselor) is available for virtual counseling sessions. To set up or ask questions, just give her a call @ 907-370-3315.
I have several websites where I post counseling insights, enrichment and Encore activities like Guitar, and Life Skills lessons by grade level. The following link leads you to them, and a more detailed letter about remote counseling:
