Owning Up - Day 1

Each week students will be given a new exercise in the Culture of Dignity while acknowledging their own faults and mastering control of them. They will also learn how to confront social cruelty, bullying, and injustice in a respectful manner for theirselves and others. On Monday students will be introduced to a new program titled "Owning Up" by Rosalind Wiseman. The first lesson is an introduction on what to expect from the program, and what was expected of the student. (As in, the student will get uncomfortable.) Topics will be discussed with honesty and respect. Everyone will "get real", get wise, and treat others point of view with dignity.

Next Week:

Day Two Lesson: Just Kidding: Why are we really laughing? Clarifying the difference between harmless teasing and using that term as a cover to get away with hurting people.

Don't Mark Me

In addition to the program Owning Up: A Culture of Dignity, another program about bullying/suicide prevention will being given Thursday, March 8, for 3-8th grade. Presenter Deputy Paul Leal of Williamson County Constables Office warns he will take them on an emotional roller coaster about how we treat each other. The school counselors will be available if they are needed.

Presentation Times:

3-4th: 1:00 pm

5-6th: 2:00 pm

7-8th: 12:06 pm - after lunch

Quote of the Week

"Growth is uncomortable because you've never been here before- you've never been this version of you. So give yourself a little grace and breathe through it." ~ Kristin Lohr

The 3rd 9 weeks Box Tops Collection date is Friday, March 9th.

Only have a couple? Send them anyway! Every little bit helps! The 100th Day program this year happened because of the box top sales. In the past playground equipment, recess items, and dye cutters for teachers lounge were purchased through Box Top collections. We understand it is easier to toss and go, but please take a moment to tear out the tiny coupon and send to the school, (Even better, cut it out. You would really be awesome then!) It is appreciated and is guaranteed to go to a good towards a good cause - the students.

Shout Out!

To fourth grade students Onasis Mendez (1st place), Kricket Dowd (2nd place), and Krista Hutka (3rd place) for making their Accelerated Reading program goals and scoring the top three highest points earned by the entire student body so far! The year's not over guys, hang on to your titles, as others are closing in!

100th Day Balloons Found!

Two balloons from the 100th day balloon release have been found and mailed back to the school. These biodegradable wonders were found by farmers and kindly returned. Tinslee's from kindergarten, was found on the cow pasture in Kosse, Texas, roughly 75 miles from Granger. The second balloon belonged to fourth grader Onasis, and his landed in a natural pine forest cultivated for lumber in Kilgore. The loggers found the note while harvesting. Both balloons have been pinned on the map located in the elementary foyer.

Wearing Red for Heart Health Awareness

February was heart health month. The class wearing the most red on Valentine's Day won a popcorn party from the Student Health Advisory Council. (SHAC) There was a tie between Mrs. Ivicic's class and Mrs. Michalik's class. So SHAC had a heart and gave each class a party! Great job students in helping us remember to take care of our hearts and health!
