Jason Chin Author Visit
We thank LMC Director Mrs. Kovacic for helping to bring author / illustrator, Jason Chin, to Dryden this past Friday. Students were mesmerized by Jason Chin's storytelling and artwork. Many connected with Jason Chin's love of science, nature, art, reading and writing. What a wonderful opportunity for students to see and hear firsthand the process of research, planning, writing and revising as well!
5th Grade Service Project
Friday FLIPS
The Dryden staff is on the lookout for students going above and beyond in big and small ways to make a positive impact on their school community. These Dolphin sightings are recognized during the morning announcements on Fridays. The students below were recognized for exemplifying the Dryden Dolphin Do's of being CARING, RESPONSIBLE and SAFE. Stay tuned for updates on these awesome Dolphin sightings and Friday Flips!
IAR & ISA Testing, March 6 - 15
Classroom teachers will communicate specific testing dates and times. We appreciate you scheduling student absences around the testing times when possible.
The IAR is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. The IAR consists of three 60-minute math tests and two language arts tests (75 minutes each for 3rd grade, and 90 minutes each for 4th and 5th grade). The ISA is the state science assessment and complies with federal requirements. The ISA consists of three, two-hour tests. Students will use their school Chromebooks for the assessments. In addition to multiple choice responses, students will be asked to write equations, explanations for solutions, literary analyses, personal narratives and research essays.
Students are encouraged to do the following:
- Take your time
- Try to answer every question
- For the essays, put forth your best effort and write something related to the topic
- Plan out your essays before you write
- Check your work
A good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast and positive encouragement from home goes a long way in helping students feel comfortable and ready to show their best selves at school. We appreciate the positive support you provide!

This year the 5th graders have voted to support The Buddy Foundation for Dryden’s annual 5th Grade Service Project. The Buddy Foundation is a volunteer-run organization that provides immediate care and safety to stray, abused or abandoned animals. They give the animals medical care and a temporary home as they work to find the pets a forever family. Please join our 5th graders in a donation drive to help assist this local organization! Students have been working hard this week to prepare for the donation drive by creating posters, flyers, donation boxes, and video messages for the school. As donations come in, students will be collecting, organizing, and counting donations to prepare for the delivery to The Buddy Foundation. Please send donated items to Dryden the week of February 27th-March 3rd, and we will deliver the items to The Buddy Foundation!
