Kleb Intermediate
Edition 6: October 13, 2020
Hello Bearcub families,
Happy Monday afternoon! We hope that everyone enjoyed some time with their families this weekend and got some well deserved rest. Even though this will be a short four day week for us, we know that it will be a busy one as we wrap up our sixth week at school!
This week marks our second academic progress measure as our first eligibility progress report is this Friday. This means that our students who participate in a UIL activity can become ineligible if they are not passing a course with a 70 or higher. Our staff is working hard to communicate our student's academic progress and help support them in completing any missing work. We are asking our parents to help with this endeavor by reviewing with your student their grades and work to determine if they need to attend tutoring during den this week or submit any missing work. This is a great study skill for our middle schoolers to develop and will be invaluable as they progress through middle school and into high school. Parents we are also asking for your understanding that we will need at least twenty-four hours in some cases to respond to your calls or emails as we work to assist students. We appreciate your patience as our middle school teachers juggle up to 165 students and we are working hard to provide support to all of our Bearcubs.
We are looking forward to another fabulous week and as always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff.

Kleb Kudos!
Tips & Reminders to Prepare for Week 5:
Weekly Emailed Progress Reports:
Our staff members will be sending out emailed progress reports again this week. Please note that these grades reflect the student's current average in their courses as sometimes there is a variance between Skyward and Schoology, as there are typically additional assignment in Schoology that may not be taken as a grade.
Students will continue to have opportunities in den to complete any work or visit a teacher for additional tutoring through Zoom or in person. Teachers will also continue to have Zoom tutoring options available before and after school to support students.
We appreciate everyone's support this year in helping us grow our Bearcubs academically.

Student Information
Online Testing Guidelines
- Be present on Zoom at the time of the class to take the test and remain in class the entire period. If a student is not present online during the class on test day, they will have to arrange a time with the teacher to take a make-up test. If all testing opportunities are missed, then a zero would be recorded in the grade book for that test.
- Have their cameras on with the student's face in view. Students must have their cameras on the entire time they are testing. If not, teachers will give the students reminders to turn it on before exiting them from the Zoom. Students that begin the test and then turn off their cameras or leave may cause their test to become invalidated.
- Ensure their testing environment is free from distractions and communicate with their teacher if they are having any issues.
Zoom Participation Guidelines:
In order to help support our students more effectively and manage our Zoom/Online classrooms, we have implemented the following guidelines that will be required in order to participate in Zoom.
- Students need to follow the dress code when online with their teacher and/or classmates
- Students will need to make sure to use their first and last name as their screen name in order to be let in from the waiting room
- Students will need to leave their cameras on for the entire time while in the Zoom session unless there are extenuating circumstances that does not allow them to do so. If those circumstances exist, then the student or parent needs to contact their teacher to let them know.
Students may use the Chat feature for topics related to the lesson or to communicate with the teacher.
Students need to be participating in a conducive work environment, for example, students should not be Zooming in from a vehicle.
Parents, please note, that our Zooms are considered part of our classrooms. Our campus is diligently working to create a cohesive classroom environment and provide our online students an opportunity to engage with both the teacher and other students. If you need to contact one of our staff members for questions or support, we ask that you email or call them so that they can reach out and address any issues.
KOL Student Tech Support for this week:
Updated Tech Support for this week: For our online students, we have added a Kleb Tech Support Form to our Website for all software tech issues such as Schoology, Skyward, and Zoom. The form will link to each grade level office so we can direct your response to the proper channels to get you support. Click here to access the form. On campus students can continue to visit our repair center during school hours for both hardware and software issues.
New Device Pick-Up for our online students will be on Monday & Friday of this week from 7:30-8:00 am as drive through help in the bus parking lot on the cafeteria side of the school.
Hardware Tech Support such as repairs to keyboards, screens, cameras, etc. for our online students will be on Monday & Friday of this week from 7:30-8:00 am as drive through help in the bus parking lot on the cafeteria side of the school.
Campus Sporting Events
With the games beginning soon, we wanted to share spectator information that applies to both the games held on campus and at the high school stadium. With limited capacity rules and following Klein's guidelines for all Intermediate campuses, we will be restricting our spectators to our participants/athletes, the parents, grandparents, & siblings of the athletes, and the season pass holders. We are limiting our spectators in an effort to ensure that family members have an opportunity to watch their student's play. Spectators must present their pre-paid pass or gold card at the entry gate for each game to order to enter. A limited number of tickets will also be available for family members to purchase at the game but on a first come, first serve basis. Families will be required to sit together and socially distance themselves from other families. There will also be some special procedures for spectators at the on campus facilitates.
Please note, all spectators must wear a mask for the entirety of time, whether at the gym or outside stadium. We appreciate everyone following this rule so we can continue to hold games!
We understand this is a big change from year's past and will continue to reevaluate our process throughout the season. We will look for opportunities to be able to invite students and other community members to the games once we are able to accommodate everyone safely or there is an adjustment to the Intermediate campus guidelines.
Once again, we appreciate your understanding as we work to create opportunities for our students and families to participate in sporting events.

2020-2021 Bell Schedule
Dress Code Highlights
Cell Phone Policy: Pulled from the 2020-2021 Klein ISD Student Handbook
Electronic Devices and Technology Resources (All Grade Levels) Possession and Use of Personal Telecommunications Devices, Including Mobile Telephones: The district permits students to possess personal cell phones for safety purposes; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes.
A student must have approval to possess other personal telecommunications devices such as laptops, tablets, or other portable computers. Students are not permitted to possess or use personal electronic devices at school unless prior permission has been obtained. Without such permission, teachers will collect the items and turn them in to the principal’s office. The principal will determine whether to return items to students at the end of the day or to contact parents to pick up the items. The use of mobile telephones or any device capable of capturing images is strictly prohibited in locker rooms or restroom areas while at school or at a school-related or school-sponsored event. If a student uses a telecommunications device without authorization during the school day, the device will be confiscated. The parent may pick up the confiscated telecommunications device from the principal’s office.
Please reference the Student Handbook for more information about cell phones and acceptable technology use.
Attendance Procedures
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
Did you know you can now report an absence in Skyward? Click HERE for more information.
Any student who is absent for the whole day is required to produce one of the following within 5 days of their absence(s):
· Parent Note
· Parent email (within 5 days of absence)
· Original medical note (copies or altered notes will not be accepted)
· Faxed notes must be sent from physician’s office
· Court note
· Official note for observance of approved religious holy days
***If a student is absent for part of the day for a doctor appointment, their absence will be coded as Section 25 (temporary absence) if the student follows the following procedure: The student must return the doctor excuse to the Attendance Office immediately upon returning to school to receive the Section 25 coding for their absence.
If a student does not produce one of the items listed above within the allotted timeframe, that absence will be considered unexcused and counted toward their total semester absences.
Klein ISD takes attendance very seriously, and we want to see your child succeed at Kleb. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please feel free to contact the attendance office at 832-249-5495 or reach out to your assistant principal.
Additional attendance information can be found starting on page 36 of the 20-21 Student Handbook.
