Addition Math Workshop for Parents // Taller de Sumas Básicas
- THIS TUESDAY, October 16
- 8:05-9:30 a.m. in the Library
- For parents, especially of children in K-2
In this fun and interactive workshop, parents and families will learn powerful strategies for helping their children master addition facts. We will also review some fun math games and activities that families can use at home to make practicing fun and effective. Ideal for parents of children in grades K-2. Spanish interpretation provided.

Camp Out and Read! Peirce Family Reading Night // Acampar y leer! Noche de Lecturas en Pierce
- THIS WEDNESDAY, October 17
- 5:00-7:00 p.m.
- For the whole family
Read stories under the stars and listen to stories around the campfire! Eat s’mores while checking out literacy projects, camp crafts, the photo tent, a poetry slam for grades 6-8, and FREE BOOKS! *Plus* Visit the Dyslexia Awareness Room in Rm. 104 to learn about dyslexia, get a list of books and resources, play a game, hear from a Peirce student who has dyslexia, and interact with a dyslexia simulator. There will also be a raffle to win a gift certificate to Women and Children First bookstore.
Halloween Dance // Fiesta de Halloween

- 5:00-6:30 p.m.
- For the whole family
There's a Halloween Dance for everyone! This year elementary and middle school students will enjoy 2 separate spaces to dance! We will have light snacks & beverages, crafts, music and dancing! Costumes are welcome but please no weapons or masks (same rules as at the school-wide Halloween Parade). $1/kid suggested donation at the door. All kids must have an adult responsible for them present at the event!
In-Person Volunteer Opportunities // Oportunidades de voluntariado en persona
Room reps // Representantes del salones de clase
Training will be this Friday, October 15 at 9 a.m. in the fieldhouse. Anyone who signed up to be room rep should check their email for a message from Rebecca Hendrickson or Jill Garvey which will contain information about this meeting, and other important Room Rep business.
Halloween Dance Volunteers // Voluntarios para fiesta de Halloween
PSO is looking for volunteers to help make the Halloween Dance a success. The dance will be on Friday Oct. 26 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Visit the Signup Genius to find out what types of help are still needed. These would be Level II volunteer spots (you wouldn't need to have been fingerprinted).
Still confused about Level I and Level II and all the new volunteer policies CPS has put in place this year? We all are! Friends of Peirce has created a guide to help you through the process.

Books // Libros
- When: By Wednesday
- Where: Bring to Camp Out and Read, or use donation space near the lost and found inside Door 7 during drop-off or pickup.
Please bring your gently used books to Peirce for the Free Book Table at Camp Out and Read on Wednesday night. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Lebovitz (kclebovitz@cps.edu) or Ms. Hopkins (klhopkins@cps.edu).
Recyclables to make art // Cosas reciclables
- When: Starting now
- Where: PYP and MYP Art Rooms
The art department is in need of materials for students to make collaborative sculptures. Please empty and wash any donations! The items needed include: plastic water bottles, plastic tops/caps of any kind, paper towel rolls, laundry detergent containers, milk or water gallon containers, liter plastic soda containers, discarded CDs or DVDs, egg cartons, plastic containers for yogurt, sour cream, etc. Click here for more information y informacion en español

- Where: Donation box in main lobby
Middle Schoolers are raising money for their New York trip with a shoe drive. Bring gently used shoes to donate to Camp Out and Read on Wednesday night (or drop off in main lobby any time)! Questions about the shoe drive can go to Tanya Larson (tanya@friendsofpeirce.org).
Support the Middle School New York Trip // Apoyar a los estudiantes de Middle School para el viaje de Nueva York
- Bring shoes for the shoe drive (see above)
- Buy coffee at Camp Out and Read
- Get your whole family Peirce Panther Gear (Sale ends Oct. 22!)
- Enjoy a night out while middle school students entertain your kids! Next date is November 7, with more scheduled through the winter and spring.
