Playground Update
We realize that we have not been the best in communicating updates regarding the timeline for our playground. This was not by design, but needed to be cognizant of our construction process and approval from our board of education.
As you are aware we were to have a second playground constructed for our students on our southern most portion of our property. You may have even noticed that our Project Fit America equipment has been installed.
However, as we were working to install the new playground and Project Fit play equipment this fall, we ran into two construction concerns:
1) We hit rock surrounding the intended site.
2) We found challenges in ensuring ADA access to the playground area at the planned location south of Pathfinder.
Due to these challenges, we have worked with our civil engineers, playground architects, and project installers to come up with a better solution and have relocated the playground area to the north side of Pathfinder.
Here is the new plan moving forth:
- Remove the existing playground equipment and playground surface.
- Replace it with the new playground equipment and Project Fit equipment as well as new synthetic turf surface.
- Expand the existing playground area to allow additional play options for our students.
(We will only have one playground for Pathfinder Elementary)
This plan is still in the finalization phase, but the playground installation crew will start mobilizing equipment and begin work on Monday, October 17.
The estimated timeline for completion is two weeks.
During construction, Pathfinder staff will be arranging other recess activities for our students:
K-2nd grade - Still to be determined
3rd and 4th grades - Continue utilizing the YMCA fields.
Devin and Jami will be engaging an action team to help coordinate appropriate activities for students during the construction and will also be working with this same action team to develop a new schedule for utilization of the playground as we move forth.
If you have questions or concerns please direct them to Devin.
