Prinicpal's Point to Ponder
Nowhere to go but UP
So we have finally received our school's EOG scores from the 2012-13 school year. Even though proficiency rates are low, there are still several things to celebrate about our data: We met EXPECTED growth as a school! Our Hispanic subgroup met all AMO targets for reading, math, and science! We met all but one AMO target for math and all but one AMO target for science! Our science proficiency rate increased from last year (which is contrary to the norm for the zone and the district)! ....and we EXCEEDED growth expectations for science! We have a lot to be proud of yet we recognize there is a lot of work still to be done. Remember the main messages from Thursday's staff meeting around DDI, small groups, rigor, and the important role grades K-2 play in our future success. Together we will LIFT from our new baseline and rise to the top because by doing what we know is best, there is nowhere to go but UP! Thanks for all you do!

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK: Reset, Revisit, and Review
Last week, the 1st grade team dedicated time to reset, revisit, and review behavioral and procedural expectations for their students: morning procedures, hallway procedures, cafeteria procedures, and classroom procedures. What I noticed as I watched the students practice the expectations is that 100% of the students were compliant because the teachers presented a united front with all teachers giving students the same message. By taking a small amount of time to reset expectations, the 1st grade teachers are going to gain time for instruction. As a school, we need to follow the lead of the 1st grade team and make sure we are giving students the same, consistent message. As a grade level, ask yourselves if it is time to reset, revisit, and review the behavioral and procedural expectations for your students. At the end of the day, this will be time well spent.

Kudos / General Reminders and Expectations
- Kudos to Coach Davis for volunteering to coach our co-ed basketball team. The team meets two days after school each week. For some students, sports is the one thing that keeps them motivated to do well in school. Thanks, Coach Davis, for providing this opportunity for our kids.
- Kudos to Umberger for being consistently on time and ever present for morning and afternoon duty on the bus lot! Our kids know they can count on you being the first welcoming person they see each morning. Thank you!
