Walking and Running During the Quarantine
April 20, 2020
We started our get together with a Mindful Moment. This week we focused on
Noticing with Our Senses. Click on the video below to give it a try!
Our Favorite Places to Walk
Our first circle round had us discussing our favorite places that we have been walking these past few weeks. Surprisingly, cemeteries came up as a favorite for several of our participants, especially when noticing artwork on the headstones. Some other ideas that we all wanted to share included:
Just around our neighborhoods
Driving to random towns to walk around their town centers
Doing loops: keep experiencing it the same route in a different way each time
Exploring downtown Melrose
Private beach in Rockport
Chasing after our kids on electric scooters, bikes, etc.

Unusual Things We Have Encountered On Our Walks
Nature! One participant noted that nature is much more present than they had ever noticed before.
Different streets & houses that had not been noticed before
People waving...lots of people and interaction
Kids playing outside games
Lots of sidewalk chalk!
Old headstones with a carving of a finger pointing up...research showed that this means they are pointing up to Heaven
Deer leg/hoof down to the bone
A No Trespassing street sign that led the participant to discover a whole neighborhood that was built then boarded up...after some research, they found that the neighborhood was built in 2006 and the builder ran out of money and had to stop building
Spring clean outs and dumpsters...this participant noted that it seems like lots of renovations are happening

How Do We Stay Motivated to Stay Moving
Staying motivated can be challenging, so it made sense for round 3 of our staff circle to be guided by the question: How do you stay motivated to walk or run? Some of the ideas that was shared included:
Remembering it is a time to experience nature.
This is an incredible opportunity to have family time...especially if you have teenagers!
You can get your steps in...aim for 10,000 per day!!
It can be a great time to take pictures & document this experience as a future primary source.
Opportunity to call your family or friends-walk while you talk!
Gives you some space from roommates and it is an escape to get outside.
GET's YOU OUT OF THE HOUSE! And you feel BETTER afterwards.
