Information and Resources Update-April 2020
A Short Message...from Pamela
Hello Everyone, I hope this message finds you safe and in good health. As we learned last week, school is closed for the rest of the 2020 school year. I am sure that brings up many questions regarding compensatory services (TEA is working on a guidance document) and other topics. Unfortunately, we don't have many answers except to continue to serve, communicate with students and parents, document progress and follow your school's guidance. TEA has some newer documents and resources that may help as you continue to work with students. I will provide any updates as soon as possible.
On another note, on Thursday, April 29th at 1:30-2:30pm I am having a Zoom Chat to discuss what you are doing, share ideas and problem-solve with each other. Please see link below to sign up through Region 10. Here’s the event link: Section 504 Live Chat
Section 504 and COVID-19 Webinar
Thanks for all who attended the March 30th Webinar from Mr. Jose Martín, Attorney At Law. Here is the link to the webinar if you missed it. Legal Issues Under IDEA and Section 504
There were many questions during the webinar. I put the questions that were similar together and gave information from TEA resources, Mr. Martín and the dyslexia program as appropriate.

One of the cool things happening is that people are sharing resources. Check this great document created by Region 1.
The Unofficial Section 504 Day-April 28, 2020
Although it's not the greatest visual picture, I did my doctoral internship with the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) under the leadership of Dr. Judy Heumann back in the 80's. Little did I know what a big impact she had on rights for people with disabilities. Here is a blog that gives and overview of the beginnings of Section 504. DYSLEXIA RESOURCES
From Dr. Melanie Royal (State Dyslexia Consultant)
The health and safety of all students, educators, and their families is the utmost priority during the current COVID-19 pandemic period. In response to the pandemic, and the need to alter the instructional setting for our students, several resources have been developed to assist school districts, educators, and parents in supporting the students of Texas identified with dyslexia or a related disorder. You are encouraged to visit the following websites periodically as resources continue to be added or updated frequently.

Think out of the X-Box!
On a more personal note, my husband and I are raising our great-nephews. In a continuing effort to limit technology and TV, we had them create a show. They came up with the name, logo, and topics. I hope you will enjoy. I HAVE NO IDEA!
