From Mrs. Price
Hello Buckalew Families,
We are so excited to welcome our new and returning Bears in just a few short weeks! Our teachers "officially" return to campus next week and are getting ready for our 20-21 school where we are #BEtterTogether! We are excited to begin this school year and know this will be a very different start for all of us, a year none of us have experienced before. I want to thank you all for your kind words, emails, and support since last spring. It is still hard to believe that we left an incredible Field Day on March 6 last spring and haven't seen our students inside the building since. As we all continue to navigate more new terrain and starting a school year online, we want to thank you in advance for your patience and grace. What we typically spend an entire year troubleshooting and planning is being developed and planned as fast as we can get all the information out to you. As previously communicated, all students will be virtual from August 12th-September 4th.
As of today, we are still missing 25% of our student verifications indicating if your student will participate online or in-person. This is due on 7/28/20 at midnight. To avoid phone calls from our campus, we ask that you please complete this process by the deadline. This data is essential to our class placement, master schedule, and specific campus plans.
Please continue to check the District's Roadmap to Reopening web page for updated information. I have also linked Dr. Null's July 23 YouTube live update video below this message.
As we continue to work to solidify plans for the 2020-2021 school year, I want to share additional information with you that is specific to Buckalew:
- August 10th- Virtual Meet the Teacher (more information to come)
- August 11th- Technology, Spirit Wear, and School Supply Distribution (see details below)
- August 12th- First Day of Online School Begins
We would like for you to complete the technology survey below to indicate if you NEED technology for your students for the online instruction. We do know that if you selected online instruction, you did answer this question, however we ask you complete it again now that all students will be instructed online for the first 3 weeks.
We appreciate your continued support and look forward to working together. More to come. For questions, please call our front office at 281-465-3400 or email contactbuckalew@conroeisd.net
Virtual Hugs,
Mrs. Price
Selecting an Instructional Format
If your child is currently registered at Buckalew, and you have an email on file, you should have received an email from the district registration system asking you to select in-person or online instruction as we begin the 2020-2021 school year. Please complete that selection process as soon as possible. The deadline for submission is July 28. Knowing everyone's selection as early as possible will allow us to finalize class placement and to determine how many teachers will be needed to teach our online classes.
If you did not receive an email regarding selection of online or traditional instruction for the 2020-2021 school year, please visit the Roadmap to Re-opening web site (link below) for additional information.
Conroe ISD is offering both Traditional In-Person and Remote/Online Instruction. Both programs will follow Conroe ISD’s TEKS-based curriculum. Families will be asked to select one of these options when they complete their enrollment or information review in Enrollment Online (formerly known as InfoSnap). Should a family want to change their child’s selection, changes must be requested by midnight on July 28, 2020, by emailing or calling their child’s campus using the contact information at the top of the campus website. Changes to the selection can also be made at the end of the nine-week grading period.
On Thursday, July 23, Dr. Null gave a live update on the Conroe ISD YouTube Channel. A recording of the video is available at this link. To find answers to specific questions, please see the approximate video times below.
- 23:30 - Who helps us make the decisions?
- 28:50 - Why is COVID-19 any different than a cold or the flu?
- 37:05 - What’s going to be different in three weeks?
- 44:30 - What is the four week ramp-up period?
- 56:05 - What are the expectations?
- 1:02:30 - What is another way Conroe ISD families without internet can get access?
- 1:04:05 - What about the 2020-2021 school calendar? Why wasn’t it adjusted?
- 1:05:50 - What about UIL activities and athletics?
- 1:09:30 - If we don’t have a computer or device, can we get one from Conroe ISD?
- 1:10:02 - What if I want to change my child’s method of instruction?
- 1:11:03 - What happened at the last Conroe ISD Board Meeting?
A video with this information in Spanish will be available next week.
Additional information is available on the Conroe ISD Roadmap to Reopening website. This site is updated regularly. More details will be posted in the coming days about what to expect from Remote/Online Instruction.
School Supplies & Spirit Wear
As a convenience for your family, we would love to hold onto your school supplies on campus as our goal is for in-person instruction and so the students do not have to carry the bulk supplies by themselves for in-person instruction as we approach September 8th. PTO purchased supplies will be delivered to the child's homeroom teacher and the teacher will hold onto the supplies for in-person (or online students). The items in the PTO packs are for in-person instruction and will be set aside for your student to use. It is a district expectation during this pandemic that we are not sharing supplies, so your child's supplies remaining on campus, will go straight to your child's classroom awaiting for their return. However, if you purchased PTO's school supplies and would like to pick them up prior to the start of school, we will have those available in the car rider line according to the following times below on August 11th (see below).
Pre-Ordered Spirit Wear (t-shirts, bottles, masks, etc) will also be in the back of the school for car rider distribution. If you ordered spirit wear, please provide your student name(s) and you will be able to quickly pick up your student items.
Technology Checkout
There is a "Technology Needs Survey" below. We know the opportunity was already asked when you selected "virtual", but we would kindly request for any student needing technology, to please submit the survey by this Friday July 31st.
Technology Distribution will be held in the front driveway to the school on August 11.

Wearing Masks
Staff at Buckalew will wear face masks. Final guidance on student mask requirements have not been provided yet, but I highly encourage students who are able to wear face masks at school to wear them. Schools are subject to Governor Abbott's executive order regarding masks. Under the current order, children ten and older are required to wear masks. Schools are required to comply with executive orders issued by the Governor. Whether masks are required or not, wearing a mask protects your child's ability to come to school. Based on rules from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), masks are an essential piece of determining if people are in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19. Students and staff who are wearing masks are less likely to be required to leave school or quarantine. Wearing a mask protects our ability to work and to attend school. Please read more specific details in the Roadmap to Reopening.
PTO has made masks available to purchase (see picture). Click HERE to order.
