About Leonardo
Self Portrait
Dated circa 1512 and done with red chalk on 33.3 cm × 21.6 cm paper, Leonardo da Vinci’s self-portrait illustrates the three quarter view of an elderly man’s head. The depicted man was shown with long and wavy hair and beard flowing down to the man’s shoulders and chest. Deep lines were made on the facial features of the man especially in the part of the eyebrows and the lines below the eyes forming pouches. The eyes were illustrated looking somewhere ahead.
