Important Note for Current 8th-Grade Families
Mrs. Choo met with 8th-grade ELA classes to preview high school pathways and informally gauge interest in each of those programs. While families who wish to continue into the high school program must apply through the School Choice window that opens on January 8th, having a rough idea will allow us to begin planning with the School Choice office to determine approximate numbers of available seats for new students.
Students or families who do not submit a School Choice application will be reassigned to their zoned high school for 2024-2025.
FAST PM2 Results Available
The majority of our students have completed the mid-year progress monitoring tests for ELA and Math. We are very encouraged by the positive trends from PM1 (beginning, baseline scores) to PM2 (mid-year progress check). It's helpful to remember that the "yardstick" against which these scores are measured is what students must master by the end of the year. Therefore, it's expected that students may appear to be scoring a little lower than their end of year levels from Spring 2023. It's what we do now to continue filling in gaps for students scoring in levels 1 - 4 that will help them finish in a stronger mastery position.
Families who wish to support their student's academic journey should consider protecting time for students to practice with online tools provided by the district to work on ELA and/or math. Students scoring at level 1 should certainly plan to use Lexia Pro and Dreambox for practice. We are seeing students who use these tools make significant gains in their confidence and scores. Our school team is working to provide additional resources for students scoring at level 2 or higher but wanting to continue to grow. Stay tuned for updates!

11 Strategies for Connecting With Your Teen Over Winter Break
Growing up, winter breaks were always so awkward. Our typical routine was broken up, so we were hanging around without much to do. My parents had their regular rhythms that continued on (work, church commitments), so generally there was no reason to be around the house. We just left or spent the day watching TV and playing video games. Perhaps that’s your experience too. Granted the older the kids are, the more likely they’ll plan their break with friends or choose to stow away in their rooms only coming out to eat and use the bathroom. But if we put a little thought into it, I think there are ways parents can connect by planning some simple but meaningful winter activities for teens. Here are 11 strategies you can use to make the time less awkward and more awesome.
Huddle up with your kids and ask, “What would you enjoy doing together over winter break?”

Extended School Day
Students whose academic performance meet specific criteria for additional, targeted interventions will be offered a seat in this free after school program. Participation requires regular attendance. Transportation is not provided for this program.
After School Detention
When a student's actions or pattern of behavior warrant it, we will now begin assigning after school detentions as a disciplinary consequence. Parents must arrange for transportation for students who are assigned after school detention.
