The NY Mills ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) Program will be hosting Supper with Santa from 5-6 p.m. on Dec. 13. The evening is for families of children ages birth to pre-kindergarten. The evening begins with supper in the lunchroom and will move to the sports center foyer where children can meet Santa, as well as complete a few "make and take" crafts.
December 21: Intro to Acting Performance at 9 a.m.
Elementary students are invited to attend the Intro to Acting and Media’s performance of the one-act play The Lunchroom starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21. Parents of Intro to Acting & Media students may also attend.
This play focuses on the social groups we find ourselves in, and whether or not we want to belong in those groups. It will be a fun performance appropriate for all age groups! This play was also performed three years ago, so some of you may remember. The performance is in the James Mann Auditorium and will run approximately 40 minutes in length.
December 22: Holiday Activities
The High School will spend the afternoon taking part in the Student Council Activity Day. The student council has come up with a list of activities that students can choose from. The day will include everything from crafts to dodge ball to dancing.
From the High School Office:
The Eagles made me laugh this fall too. The small conversations with students in the hallway are just what I need to cheer me up. These conversations, and their smiles, bring much joy. Knowing how fun the Eagles are on the day-to-day, it was no surprise that they made everyone laugh during the fall play--a comedy called “The Play that Goes Wrong.” Last, but definitely not least, I was proud to sit in the bleachers at US Bank Stadium to cheer on our very own football team during the Semi-Finals. Thanks for bringing me there, NY Mills Eagles. Thanks to everyone that made this fall memorable. I hope you enjoy winter and everything it has to offer. Go Eagles!
From the elementary office
Thank you to all those that donated to the NYM Food Shelf Drive during Red Ribbon Week.
We collected and donated 301 pounds of food, which was the most food we have ever collected during Red Ribbon Week. On top of the food donation, we were able to donate $184.77, which was double the amount in previous years. Special thanks to Jane Wankel for arranging Red Ribbon Week.
I'm also excited to announce the return of the Principal's Book Club. In this NYMEF funded program, students are randomly chosen to participate in the monthly book club. Participants meet once a week over lunch to discuss the book we are reading.
I am looking forward to the upcoming holiday concerts. I've heard the elementary students practicing their songs during music every day, and I know they will put on a great show.
Finally, I want to extend a giant THANK YOU to the New York Mills CSC Committee for another AMAZING carnival. The event brought in more than $10,000 that will be given back to teachers in the form of NYMEF grants.

FROM THE NURSE'S OFFICE
To help prevent the spread of illness:
- Encourage your child to wash their hands.
- Ensure your child gets adequate sleep each night.
- Provide a water bottle for your child to use at school to keep him/her well-hydrated.
- If your child is ill or is not feeling well, please keep him/her home.
- If someone within your household tests positive for COVID, please keep all students that live in that house at home. Call the Health Office 385-4216 for further guidance.
Pink Eye - MDH no longer requires schools to exclude students with pinkeye. This was changed in 2019.
Fevers - Students should be fever-free (without the use of medications) for 24 hours before returning to school.
Strep Throat - Your child will need to be on antibiotics for at least 12 hours before returning to school.

VFW Auxiliary Card Contest
The New York Mills VFW Auxiliary presented awards to nine local winners in the Thank You, Veteran Card contest sponsored by the MN Department of the VFW Auxiliary. The contest consisted of making a card that said “thank you, veteran” on it with whatever else the student chose to write or draw. There was a total of 208 cards entered for competition. For judging they were divided into three categories according to grade level. Three were chosen from the first grade, three from the second and third grades and three from the fourth and fifth grades. These nine cards were advanced to the District VFW Auxiliary where they will compete for entry at the State of MN level. There were many delightful cards entered which made the judges decisions difficult.
The remaining 199 cards were given to area VFW homes and nursing homes to be distributed to the veteran residents in those facilities. They were warmly received by the staff members there. One of the comments made was “our residents can use a nice pick-me-up like these cards right now as they are quarantining in their units because of Covid. They will love the cards from the kiddos.” For that reason, all the cards entered in the contest were winners.
The purpose of the contest was to teach our young people to recognize the sacrifices our veterans have made in serving our country. The students came through in flying colors showing by their words and artwork that they know and appreciate what it means to serve our country.
