Cougar Chronicles
Kent Center School's Monthly Principal Newsletter
April/May
As usual, this time of year tends to arrive quickly and zip by! Our 3-8 students have been working really hard this week on their state testing and we are all very proud of their efforts. In the last few years, we have received results over the summer and sent those to parents in the fall. That will likely be the case again this year.
Thank you for all of your support at the town budget hearing last Friday. Although our request for the reinstatement of our reduction was not met, it was great to hear all of the support from our families! We have a plan in place for our reading intervention program next year and will continue to meet all of our students' needs. The comments made at the meeting in reference to cutting classroom teachers will not be happening at KCS next year. We will continue to have two homeroom teachers in each grade. Thank you again for the support!
May brings flowers and lots of field trips! We are excited for our eighth graders who have the opportunity to have a two-day trip to Boston next week. We also have many students who will be visiting local galleries, farms, and nature centers to close out the year. Pictures will be shared on Facebook, so please visit our page!
As we wind down the school year, we will be preparing summer learning activities for the students. Information will be sent home regarding our "Region One Reads" program (see below), as well as Math activities to keep skills fresh!
We look forward to seeing many of you at our end-of-year events such as the Art Show, middle school musical, field day, and graduation!
Warmly,
Mrs. Mott

A special congratulations to Madame Miller. Three former KCS students (two freshmen) attained national recognition for excellent performance in the National French Contest- Le Grand Concours. Students were evaluated for their written, oral, and listening comprehension skills. Congratulations to Madame for the years of preparation at KCS and for instilling a love for French!
Region One Reads!
Across Region One, students and families will be reading fascinating books on the theme: Oceans of Possibilities!
Please click the following link to bring you to the book ordering form. Just like last year, each student in grades K-7 will receive one free book to jump-start their summer reading. Please complete the form by Wednesday, May 18. Any students who do not have a book choice by that date will be given the book that best fits their grade level.
Field Day
Field day is coming soon! We are excited to plan our traditional, end of year event for our students. This year, we welcome all parents to be spectators and fans during field day. Parents are invited to come watch all the festivities. Parents are welcome to come stay for the whole event or for as little or as much as your schedule allows! Parents are also invited to stay and have lunch with your child(ren).
Field Day is on Thursday, June 9 with a rain date of Friday, June 10. Games will start at 9:00. At 11:30 we will have our 8th grade/Staff kickball game. Grades K-4 will be eating lunch at 12:00 and grades 5-8 will be eating lunch at 12:30. Field Day concludes when your child has finished lunch. Students have a regular school day in the afternoon.
If you are thinking about attending field day, please complete this brief form. It will help with the planning process. RSVP - Parent Spectators, Field Day
There will be a special spectator section near each station. Parents are welcome to travel from station to station with your child(ren) as long as you stay within the spectator boundaries. If your child has an indoor station, unfortunately, you will not be able to come inside the school. All stations are 20 minutes long.
All parent spectators will need to sign in. There will be a table near the basketball court for you to do so.
If parents are planning on staying for lunch, you will need to provide your own lunch.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Marci Saunders at saundersm@kentcenter.com or 860-927-3537 X117.
We look forward to seeing many of you at our special field day event!
