Heritage Primary Eblast
Dear Heritage Families,
Last month I had such a blast serving lunch with our cafeteria staff to our students! They had amazing manners and were so excited to see the principal serving up some yummy food. If you haven’t purchased a school lunch yet this year, you definitely should give it a try. They are amazing! For lunch at Heritage we serve salad, fresh fruits and vegetables daily. We offer Domino's and Papa John’s pizza once a month. It's the same pizza you order at home! We also have "Sweet Treat Friday's", where the kids get a special sweet with their lunch. In addition to lunch, every morning, we offer a hot breakfast with cereal, yogurt and fruit available. I have included the link for the lunch menu so you can show your kids some of the upcoming choices. Also, did you know that children from families whose current income is at or below the current income guidelines are eligible for free or reduced price school meals? Applications are available at the school office or can be printed by clicking here.
This month I will be serving lunch again on November 21. I am thrilled to be serving a delicious turkey dinner to celebrate Thanksgiving along with our Heritage students. I am hoping I can encourage all of our students to buy school lunch on this day. Thanksgiving is always a time to reflect and think about what we are thankful for. I want to take this opportunity to tell you how thankful I am for our strong Heritage Community. The partnership we have with our parents is so vital to the success of our students. Thank you for taking time last month to meet with your child’s teacher. Thank you for reading with your children, packing them snacks every night and getting them to school on time. As a mom of two elementary students myself, I know how difficult it can be to get these simple things done some evenings! Thank you for supporting your child’s education, their teachers and Heritage in general. I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving with your loved ones and I am looking forward to celebrating at school by serving warm turkey dinners to the kids on the 21st.

THE PE PERSPECTIVE
Fall weather is finally here and it’s a great time to get outdoors and get active. Walking, jogging, biking, and hiking are all great activities you can do as a family. We are fortunate to have many great parks in our area including Quail Ridge, Broemmelsiek, and O’Day Park just to name a few! In PE we’ve been working on overhand and underhand throwing, catching, and scooter play! We will begin shoe tying soon. If you have a chance, please try to practice this skill with them at home!

VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY
Our Veterans Day Celebration is an important event for our students, and we are excited about honoring service men and women. We are planning an assembly for Friday, November 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the Academy Gym. Anyone is welcome to attend. Veterans will be seated in a reserved section and honored with a brief reception in the commons area afterwards. Other guests may find space in the bleachers or extra floor space.
Guests may check in at the Academy Gym entrance upon arrival.
A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
You can view a copy of the Illness Protocol here.
If your child has been sent home in new clothes please wash and return shirts and pants - you may keep the underwear.
Please feel free to send in a clean set of clothes in your child's backpack in case they need to change - it does happen to us all! They will always be more comfortable in their own things.
KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE
We are asking for your help as you drive your child to school. We want ALL of our children to arrive to school and home safely.
*Slow down and be alert in our Heritage neighborhood and school zones.
*Take extra time to look for kids at intersections and on curbs.
*Enter and exit driveways, roadways and intersections slowly and carefully.
*Watch for children on or near roads in the morning and after schools hours.
*Reduce distractions inside your car to concentrate on the road and your surroundings.
*Stop behind the white line at crosswalks.
* Always stop for a school patrol officer or crossing guard holding up a stop sign.
For Those Walking/Biking to School
*Make sure your child has a safe route before allowing him or her to walk to
*Make sure sidewalks are clear of snow, if riding a bike.
*Ride your bike on the sidewalk, not in the street.
*Always cross at a crosswalk.
*Walk, don’t run, across the street.
*Make sure drivers see you before crossing in front of them.
If your child is a walker, please drop off on either side of NORTHVIEW so they can safely cross at the crosswalk with the adults present. Please drop your child off at least five car lengths back from the intersection. Thank you for helping us keep our Heritage Cubs & Bears safe.
Changes to our Box Tops for Education program!
This year we are changing our school reward program for collecting Box Tops due to the program being in the process of going digital. The school has set a goal to raise $1000 for technology in our school. We will be tracking this goal and when we reach a percentage goal, we will have a schoolwide celebration. We are excited to show all students how much the Box Top program impacts our school and how easy it is becoming to participate by just scanning your receipt instead of clipping and submitting on paper.
Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label.
If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ for our school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online.
Look for a flyer to come home explaining in more detail the changes Box Tops has made to their program. As always we appreciate your participation to earn us money for our school's technology.
PTA Highlights & Happenings
Heritage Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
The Heritage PTA has been hard at work in October between the Fun Run and Donuts with Grownups for third grade. Thank you again to all of the volunteers who helped distribute Fun Run incentives, helped the day of the Fun Run, and who helped with the Donuts with Grownups event! We appreciate your help and couldn't do it without you!
OLD TOWN SMOKEHOUSE - HOG FOR A CAUSE
Meal planning? Well, plan on going to Old Town Smokehouse on Saturday, November 2. The Heritage PTA will receive a portion of ALL sales when you dine in from 11:00am to 11:00pm.

Like painting? Well, Friday, November 15, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm we will be painting ceiling tiles to be displayed throughout our school! More details and information will be sent home on November 4. Volunteer Background Check
An annual background check is required for all volunteers. That includes child abuse and neglect screenings, as well as a check of the national sex offender registry. Anyone who has a substantiated incident of child abuse or is on the sex offender list will not be allowed to volunteer in our schools. When completed and signed, please return these forms to the school office to be processed. These services are offered free of charge, but do take some time, so please allow at least one week for school personnel to process the request. Anyone who wishes to participate in classroom activities like school parties, or class field trips, will need to have a completed background check. We encourage all parents to fill out the request so we will have one on file for the year.
Important Information to Know
Since teachers are engaged with students in the classroom during school hours, the best way to contact them is through email, voicemail, or a note. This will give them the opportunity to contact you during their planning time. Our teachers are also happy to arrange an appointment to discuss your child’s progress.
If you have an urgent matter, call the main office at 636-327-3846 and an office secretary will be happy to help you in any way they can.
End of the Day Procedures
Please call the main office before 2:00 pm with any transportation changes. We appreciate as much time as possible to relay the message to your student and their teacher.
If you are going to pick up your student early from school, please come before 3:00 pm. We call students to the office upon your arrival as we want students engaged in class as long as possible. Remember that early pick ups and/or late arrivals impact perfect attendance. Please note there is no early dismissal from the Primary Office between 3:00 pm and 3:20 pm. If you must pick up your student early from school, please do so prior to 3:00 pm.
Visitor Cafe Guidelines
Parents and family members are welcome to visit their child at school during their lunch time. We do have limited space since we have a large population of students and ask to keep your group to a minimum when visiting. While you are visiting, please follow our HPE Visitor Cafe' Guidelines:
- You must have a visitor's badge issued prior to meeting your child in the cafe'.
- Only one friend is allowed to eat with your child in the commons area per visit.
- You may only bring food for your student. Please do not share with friends.
- Students need to return to the classroom when their classroom lunch period is over.
- All siblings are asked to remain seated and supervised at all times.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide a safe and special opportunity to visit with our child. If these guidelines are not abided by, these privileges may be revoked at any time.
