SME newsletter for families and the community

Dear Parents,

Happy September! Our students have settled into a routine and all seem to be doing very well! Thank you for all you did to help us start smoothly.

At this current time, we are beginning to see a decline in Covid positive cases and quarantines for our school. This is good news! We will continue to be diligent in keeping students three feet apart and six feet from adults. We encourage mask wearing and hand washing. We are cleaning and spraying rooms regularly to sanitize. We want to keep our students and families safe.

We appreciate all that the PTO is doing for our teachers and our school. They recently paid to have the fountain replaced in the courtyard. Many enjoy that quiet space during the school day, and it is nice to have it up and running again. In the past, they have purchased library books, technology, and classroom supplies for our school. We are so fortunate to have the support of this organization and our parents. Please consider joining the PTO and becoming an active member of this wonderful group!

We are very excited to announce that a STEM lab is being funded for Six Mile Elementary. This lab will feature hands-on activities and problem solving experiences for students in the areas of science, math, engineering, and technology. As well, teachers will have opportunities to take students to this lab to work on Project Based Learning projects or to showcase those. We are so appreciative of the district for helping us make this dream come true for our students!

Thanks to the Cliffs!

We would like to offer a big thank you to the Cliffs! Over the last five years, this group has donated to our school on a yearly basis. With their donations, we have purchased technology for the classroom, reading materials, phonics materials, library books, and much more. They also provide support for students who need food, clothing, shoes, and school supplies. As well, many of them tutor or mentor our students during the school year. We are so fortunate to have this partnership with them.

Arrival Reminders

Here are just a few reminders for our car riders in the morning:

1. Please remember to arrive between 7:30 and 8:00. After 8:00, students are tardy and parents will need to sign them in through the front office. Teachers begin the school day at 7:35, so you are encouraged to get your student here between 7:30 and 7:45 if possible.

2. Please stay in your car when unloading. The adults who help with carline will be glad to undo seat belts, car seats, help with backpacks, etc.

3. Please remember that the car line is a No Phone Zone. Please try to hold phone calls until you are finished dropping off students.

4. Please have students exit the car on the curbside to avoid all traffic.

Thank you for your help!

MAP testing for PCVA students

Students who are in PCVA, that are regularly zoned for Six Mile Elementary, will need to come to the school on September 15 and 16 to take the MAP test. Please arrive at 9:00 am. Please go to the cafeteria and someone will sign your student in.
