Monday Memo
One Body in Christ - September 26, 2022
This Sunday, October 2nd, the Saint Susanna Men's Club is holding a Biscuits and Gravy Fundraising Breakfast from 8 AM to 11 AM to benefit Nita Aldridge. Mrs. Aldridge is a long-time Saint Susanna Parishioner who has ALS. Nita was a co-chair for many years for the monthly market day sales at the school to benefit technology. She attend the monthly sales, made calls to place orders from home and coordinated volunteers which help to generate over $100,000 in profits for the school technology program.
The funds raised from this breakfast will offset some of the expenses of her medical care. Over the years, she and her husband have exhausted their savings and retirement funds on house modifications and medical expenses, with so much more left to be done. All are welcome to join us in the parish center for the breakfast.
This week is College GO Week. This initiative from the Indiana Department of Education's "Learn More Indiana" is meant to encourage our young Hoosiers to consider and prepare for higher education - at all ages. The Learn More Indiana website has resources for parents of all age students. Check out their resources here.
At Saint Susanna, our middle schoolers will create a bulletin board celebrating our teachers and their college accomplishments. We will also have the following dress-down days this week:
- Monday - Dress For Success, students dress for their future career
- Tuesday - Military Appreciation Day, camo or patriotic clothing
- Wednesday - Off to College, college gear
- Thursday - Hats Off to Higher Education, hat day - must be easily removed for mass

Around Our School
Our first and third graders learned about sounds and vibrations last week. They created string phones and were surprised to learn they worked!
The third grade enjoyed the outdoors last week for their Circle of Grace lesson. They learned about safe boundaries and looked for examples outside!
Inviting All Ladies....
Ladies of Saint Susanna School: our parish ministries are open to all of you, whether you are a Saint Susanna Parishioner or not! Mrs. Ellice Bedel, our parish youth minister, also heads up our Girlfriends in God group. This fabulous, friendly group of ladies is always welcoming to new participants. Their upcoming events include a number of fall events and regular faith sharing on Friday mornings. Please click on the pictures below for more information. If you have any questions, please contact Ellice at ebedel@saintsusanna.com
Safe Environment Training
The Archdiocese recently changed their safe environment training provider to Safe Parish, from the previous Safe and Sacred system. In the new system, all volunteers are monitored quarterly. As long as you have a previous background check, your background check will be monitored on an on-going basis and it will not expire after five years as it did in the previous system. All volunteers must be registered in the Safe Parish system before they can volunteer. Instructions for registering and training are in the newsletter each week (see below).
In order to volunteer in our school building during the day or attend field trips as a chaperone, you must have a current safe environment training on file with us. This requirement includes safe environment training and a basic background check through the Archdiocese. The training and background checks are good for five years from the time of completion.
To check your current expiration date, contact Mrs. Carson at kcarson@saintsusanna.com
To obtain a new training and background check:
- Go to the website www.archindysafeparish.org
- Create an account as this is a new system. Previously the Archdiocese used a system called "Safe and Sacred."
- You will need a passcode in order to create an account. The passcode is Archindy2021
- Complete the background check for school or parish VOLUNTEER and select Saint Susanna as a recipient of your information.
- Complete the training video and questions.
Please allow up to two weeks for this process to be completed.
Volunteer Opportunities
The service hour tracking form can be found here and a copy will be sent home in the back-to-school packets. We ask that each family complete five service hours this school year. These hours can be completed during school or parish events.
