West Shore Newsletter
March 2017
Note From the Principal
Dear Families,
It's hard to believe the first semester is coming to an end. The year is flying by so fast! Look for report cards to come home on Friday, February 3rd. If you have questions regarding your child's progress, our teaching staff will be happy to discuss any concerns with you.
As you may notice, we are trying out a new format for our monthly building newsletter. Thank you to Mrs. Rickert for her work on getting important information out to our families each month. We hope you find the newsletter helpful.
Our Valentine's Candy Gram fundraiser is coming up soon (February 1st-9th). Students may purchase a Candy Gram message with a treat and send it to a friend at school or to a family member. Proceeds will go towards instructional resources and materials. Thank you to Mrs. Ward for organizing the fundraiser and to all of our volunteers who will help fill the orders.
Lastly, please be sure to check the West Shore calendar for important upcoming dates in February!
Yours in Learning,
Mrs. Shaughnessy
March is Reading Month-Tips for Reading Sucess
Want to spend time with your youngster, build her reading skills, and help her learn to love books? You can do all three when you read aloud to her. Below are some suggestions:
- Try to read to your child every day.
- Read for 10-15 minutes before bedtime for a peaceful ending to the day.
- Children like to hear the same story over and over again!
- Ask your child to turn the pages while you read.
- Have them finish the sentences that rhyme or fill in the words they know.
- Use different voices for characters.
- Substitute friend's and family names for characters in the story.
