Time on Task & Student Engagement
Questions to Consider...
How much class time might be lost each week in your classroom?
How does establishing a specific time for tasks increase student productivity?
How does the time constraint support higher levels of engagement?
Spring Classroom Visits
I will be popping into classrooms in the coming days (now that a majority of the testing is over). I am starting with teachers who I wasn't able to see before, special area teachers, and special education teachers. Then, I will probably cycle back around to everyone before school is out in May.
I will leave a copy of my notes in your mailbox. I have recorded some of my thoughts and observations on the 3-Minute Classroom Visit form. This form provides me some structure when I visit classes and helps me to determine if there are specific instructional practices that are (or are not) occurring in the school. Right now, the form centers around three categories (student involvement, standards, and instructional practices); I call these categories "the BIG three". The form will change over time to reflect my focus. I started with "the BIG three" as they are core to student achievement. The purpose of the form is two fold-- 1) to provide me with information and 2) provide you with some feedback.
My notes are not used for evaluations in any way. Mrs. Hokey,Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Childs, Mr. Cadle do not see my notes. Dr. Doering does not see my notes. No other staff member sees the notes.
Do you have a question about my feedback? Do you want support? Do you want to try something new in your class? I split my time between jr/sr high, elementary, and the administrative building. I check my email frequently throughout the day. I can also be reached via cell phone. My cell number is 269-209-2485. Please reach out to me if you have questions, concerns, or need support.
