Volunteer Need for Salvation Army Overnight Shelter
The Salvation Army in Lewisville will be opening an overnight shelter this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, January 19-20, and is in need of volunteers. They expect 10-17 people, many who live in their cars, to use the shelter during the upcoming cold temperatures. Volunteers will help Salvation Army staff with setting up cots, serving breakfast and dinner, and other various tasks. Volunteers can serve Saturday or Sunday for the following shifts: 5-9 p.m., 9 p.m.-1 a.m., 1-4 a.m. or 5-8 a.m. Contact Ginny Marshall, vmarsh42@yahoo.com or 972.965.1338, to sign up for a shift. The Salvation Army is located at 206 W. Main Street, Lewisville.
Is health or fitness one of your goals for 2019? Join a new small group starting up to support each other on the journey to better health. Learn about what the Bible says about health and tips on living a healthy lifestyle. This will be a group about sharing ideas and supporting each other to accomplish our health goals. The meeting day, time and location will be determined based on the availability of the interested members. Indicate your interest in the Connection Center on Sunday or by email to Quang Vo, quang_x_vo@hotmail.com, by Sunday, January 27.
What does it mean to do good? It sounds simple, but where does one begin? What does doing good look like in our divided, hostile and wounded world? Join us on Sunday, January 20, as we discuss “Rules for the Road: Do Good.” Using John Wesley’s rules, we’re learning how to stay in relationship with each other—even when there are bumps in the road. Worship with us at 8:30 and 11 a.m. If you can’t join us, tune in via Facebook Live @vrumc.
A Way Forward Presentations
Our church will host two informational presentations on Sunday, January 27, regarding the United Methodist Church’s General Conference Special Session in February to address the issue of human sexuality. Tim Crouch, head of the North Texas Conference Delegation to the General Conference, will present the information.
- 9:45 a.m. (Fellowship Hall)—overview of plans being considered and the process by which the General Conference will vote
- 12:30 p.m. (Sanctuary)—in-depth presentation about the plans being considered and a question/answer session
More details, including video and written resources, are available on the church website.
