By: Abby Christian
What is Water Pollution?
Water Pollution is the contamination of bodies of water. This occurs when pollutants are directly put into our waters. Pollutants is a substance that pollutes something, especially water or the atmosphere.
By 2025 more plastic will be in the ocean than fish!
Innocent seal stuck in plastic.
Ocean Completely covered in trash!
What has Water Pollution Caused?
70 percent of waste is dumped untreated into waters where they pollute the usable water supply and hurt animals. Animals use the ocean as a source of drinking water but if it’s polluted and they eat trash they will die. Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year. A whale dies in an urban harbor and, on being autopsied, reveals a stomach full of plastic.
How can we Help prevent Water Pollution?
We can help by having multiple cleanup sessions on the beach to prevent animals and marine animals from getting sick. Only running the dishwasher or Washing machine when you have full loads and Do not throw chemicals, oils, paints and medicines down the sink drain, or the toilet.
