What Makes a Great School District?

A great school district is made up of a group of great schools working collaboratively and systemically towards a common purpose. The North Platte Public Schools are working collectively to become a great school district. Each school in the district is focusing on what matters most which is the students, teachers, principals, and systems that support learning. The District has been very busy planning and developing processes and systems to prepare our students to become productive, responsible citizens.

Practices that Make Great Leaders Great

Positive Leaders have Grit - A leader will face countless challenges, failures and setbacks that will become roadblocks unless they find a way forward. Positive leaders have grit and find a way to navigate the roadblocks or run through them to move closer to their vision and goal -- Jon Gordon

Mary Derby, principal, Eisenhower Elementary

Mary accepting the National Distinguished Principal of the Year Award. We wish Mary the very best as she continues her leadership with the Papillion La Vista School District.

A great school has a building principal that earns the respect of students, parents, and staff with a clear purpose, high expectations, and the knack to help others succeed. The NP principals understand the people they work with, and are motivated to create a positive attitude throughout the school. The NP principals create a sense of trust built on being an honest and caring leader.

Great Students

A great school has students who like what they do each day and are motivated to achieve their goals. All the NP schools have students who have different abilities, needs, and ambitions. To successfully teach all students, the NP staff understands every student is different. The teaching and interactions with students reflect an understanding of each individual student needs.

Dare to go 5 Below

Dare to go 5 Below is an attendance program the District is promoting Districtwide to lessen the number of days students miss during the year. This year the District partnered with Wild Bill's and Right Motors to offer incentives. Each term Wild Bill's gift cards were given to all the elementary schools along with Madison and Adams.

The number of cards each school received was based on the percentage of students that were on track to miss less than 5 days of school. When a student redeemed the card at Wild Bill's their name was placed in a drawing for their entire school to get a gift card to Wild Bill's and a pizza party.

The High School also participated in rewarding students by doing weekly pizza drawings. Overall as a District we are improving attendance each year. In 2013-14, we had 632 students over 20 days. After running data last week, we had 390 students over 20.

Drivers Wanted

This year the 5 Below Program is driving ahead full speed. The District is partnering with Right Motors to give one lucky student a car. All students K-12 were eligible to win if they can stay within the attendance guidelines set by North Platte Public Schools.
