Mrs. Fortunato’s Message
Dearest Parents,
Happy Easte! My heart is full of love and gratitude for all your support! You have worked hard helping to guide your child's education. I hope you are able to enjoy not having the worry of zooming or google classroom.
It is hard to believe four weeks and a few days ago, our lives changed in a big way! School as we know it changed radically with very little notice. We were expected to endure the feeling of the band-aide being pulled off without warning, because anything less would have caused more confusion and anxiety. Gratefully, we have been a strong and supportive community and I am proud! Although we continue to wait for the governor to announce what will come next, I am happy that we have learned to rely on one another as we partner to take care of our precious students. It would have been so easy to fall into the feeling of despair, but instead we met the challenge head on, as any strong knight would have done. We will continue to make adjustments and modifications along the way as we reevaluate best educational practices as we would in normal circumstances.
I go to school with the most amazing students and staff every day. The virtual learning platform has not changed going to school daily; it just looks quite a bit different. Teachers are creating video lessons, meeting with student through video conferencing, students are completing assignments online and on paper, and teachers are providing feedback. Our teachers are connecting with students and families through emails, text messages, phone calls, and video calls. Although there is a lot of focus on technology, we're also encouraging breaks to take a walk outside, time to read a real book (not an "online" book), time to connect in person with your family and those who share your house, time for creation. Here is what I hope will continue after this new temporary.
· We will continue to share our successes and struggles as partners as openly as we are doing in this new temporary.
· We will continue to be open to connecting with one another.
· We will continue to receive honest feedback from school surveys and then follow up with families to find out how we can be better.
· We will continue to provide video lessons.
· We will continue to remember that every family looks different and has their own successes and struggles.
· We will continue to remember to make time for our own families and friends even if we can't be in the same space.
· We will continue to find ways to turn off the technology and enjoy a walk or silence or nature.
