Welcome Back
(Above)-Students settling in and picking up their Mac Books to get the year started.
We are off and Running!
This has been a tremendous start to the 2017-18 school year. Teachers started the week in a District Meeting at Scottsburg Middle School. It was a time of meeting new staff and setting goals as a district. Dr. Slaton had a great message of service to our community and students. We then went out to Warrior Field to have a staff picture.
The next day we met as a staff to discuss and evaluate ourselves. Teachers then worked in groups to brainstorm on ways to make improvements to our school. We are looking at these meetings to assess and make adjustments to our mission and vision for SHS.
Tuesday evening the incoming Freshman class set an attendance record for Freshman Orientation. Students that attended received a free SHS t-shirt. Our Administrative team and Guidance department shared valuable information with parents. After that meeting students and staff went through the school to find classrooms and lockers.
The construction, custodial, maintenance and IT teams worked tirelessly to get the classrooms completed. SHS has been undergoing a HVAC project this summer. These folks have put in a tremendous amount of effort to make our school ready for students! You can see pictures below of the construction just a few weeks ago and of our students in their rooms today.
We are excited about the start of a new year.
In the Fall of 1969 (see attached image) Scottsburg High School began a football program for the first time. The Warriors were coached by Sam Chattin. In the Fall of 1971, the Warriors played their first varsity season in schools history. They began that season with a 24-20 victory over North Decatur. The Warriors went 3-6 that first season of varsity play. After three straight winless seasons at the start of the 80s, and with the programs numbers declining and the need for a coach, the school board voted to do away with football at Scottsburg High School.
For many years, some members of the community pushed to bring football back to Scottsburg High School. In 2014 that dream became reality when Scottsburg brought football back. Now in it’s 4th year back, the Warriors will play their first full varsity season since the Fall of 1983 and also play their first MSC games since that season as well. The Warriors have not won an MSC outright since 1979 (they did defeat Corydon by a forfeit in 1982).
That first historic game will be played at Warrior Field (Scottsburg Middle School) on Friday, August 18, 2017 as the Warriors will host MSC opponent Clarksville (first meeting since 10/25/1983). We expect a large crowd as we honor that first varsity team, those that helped to bring football back, IHSAA Asst Commissioner Robert Faulkens as well as a moment of silence to honor Coach Chattin who recently passed away. The district will also be hosting a tailgating cookout, and you will get a hamburger, chips and drinks for only $2 (free to district employees). Come early as we will also have a ribbon cutting for the new bleachers (no need to bring lawn chairs anymore!) at 5 pm!

Indiana State Law requires students in the 12th grade to provide documentation of receiving a second MCV4 vaccine if their first MCV4 vaccine was given before the age of 16. Students who received the first MCV4 vaccine on or after their 16th birthday have met the requirements. Students who are not up-to-date on immunizations 20 days into the school year will not be able to attend school until proper immunization records are provided.
