Never been to NCCAT or know what it's about?
NCCAT, the NC Center for the Advancement of Teaching, provides free 4-day long professional development programs to all teachers no matter how long they have been teaching and teachers are able to attend as often as they are able. NCCAT provides free pd, room, board, and food to all teachers who attend. NCCAT is no longer able to pay for substitutes or gas but everything else is included. Our campuses (one in Cullowhee and one in Ocracoke) have residence and dining halls on site for all teachers. Each teacher is given their own single room and bathroom.
Always make sure you can get any PD dates approved before signing up, but these are a great opportunity for our teachers to learn and grow.
Get your devices ready for winter break!
- Power down all classroom/staff iPads to conserve batteries,
- Switch off your wireless keyboards,
- Be sure all Chromebooks are properly plugged in and accounted for, and
- Log off of your desktop computers.
When you come back, be sure to restart/shut down desktop to push any updates through.
Protect Your Accounts!
Please remember to log off of your desktop when you leave for the day OR if you will be away from it for an extended period. This minimizes the risk of your account being compromised. Did you know you could also lock your screen if you want to walk away but don't want to completely log out?
Press the 'windows' and 'L' key simultaneously to lock your screen. You can just press 'ctrl' "alt' 'del' to get back in with your password.
Always shut down your computer at the end of the week. A complete shut down will push out updates that may be needed to that device and computers need a break too ;)
Level Up 2.0! Digital Learning Competencies and You!
In order to meet state requirements, I will continue to meet with all certified staff each month to deliver Digital Learning Competencies. As a reminder, if you are in the renewal cycle for 2018, you will be required to have 2 CEUs in the Digital Learning Competencies. The ACS Digital Lead Teacher team have been working together to deliver PD to cover these standards and ensure that teachers receive content they need.
Our topics have been broken down into four topics:
1. Leadership in Digital Learning
2. Digital Citizenship
3. Digital Content and Instruction
4. Data and Assessment
We will continue to award badges and CEUs to certified staff that take their learning beyond the conference room! You can refer to the CLX PD Calendar to see when these topics will be covered.
Our next session will be on Thursday, January 24th on data and assessment!
