The HEART of Hickam...
Dec 11th to Dec 15th
Aloha, Faculty and Staff,
We hope you had an amazing weekend. On Friday, I received some awesome news that Ms. Mardany was celebrating two years of being cancer-free. We are so proud of you, Molly, for your optimism, resilience, and strength during these arduous times. This Wednesday, I ask that we wear Orange to celebrate Molly's second anniversary of being cancer-free and to honor anyone who has struggled with this horrible disease.
This week, our faculty meeting is our holiday social, beginning in the cafeteria at 1:30 p.m. Don't forget to bring your gift for the gift exchange. Please take a look at Megan Ferrer's email. In addition, we have our 4th grade coffee hour on Wednesday morning and a holiday dress-up day on Friday. Take care, and have a wonderful week ahead. Stay committed, get 1% better.
Mahalo,
Pat and Julia
Norbert Purple Star Award Winner
Continuing with the great news, a huge congratulations to our amazing faculty and staff as Hickam Elementary was honored with the Norbert Purple Star Award for having a military-friendly school. It truly takes a village; none of this would be possible without your selfless sacrifice to our students and their families. A huge Mahalo to our amazing PCNCs (Mrs. Mondok and Mrs. Jones) and the awesome Mrs. Yee for their diligence in completing the application process.
HPD Presentation
Another huge shout-out to Officer Marfil from HPD's community policing division for speaking with our 4th and 5th-grade students about bullying prevention. A special Mahalo to Mrs. Sauer, Mrs. Yee, and Mr. Reid-Selth for coordinating the presentation and taking care of the logistics. We deeply appreciate your time and effort.
Area and Perimeter Math Lesson
I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Mrs. Lilley's class and watch her teach the difference between area and perimeter. As her assessment, the students created Robots using area and perimeter concepts such as width and length. The students even got to name their robot, which brought them joy. Great activity Mrs. Lilley!
Hour of Code
Our students participated in the 4th annual Hawai'i Family Code Dance Party on Thursday. Thank you to Mr. Moore for all your hard work coordinating this learning opportunity for our students. Here is the link if you haven't checked it out yet. bit.ly/hidanceparty
Site Teams
Not to be outdone, Mr. Moore and the tech site team looked at various tech tools to enhance productivity and instruction. This one, called Classroom Screen, is an online whiteboard with various tools, such as timers and QR codes, available for use. In addition, Mr. Moore showed the teachers code.org how the students created their presentations for the family of code dance party.
