Mrs. Schantz's Weekly Chatter
October 28th -November 1st, 2019
Some Reminders!
*Clever/Benchmark is a website that we will be using for reading. I will assign students books they can read on their iPads that are at their level. Here is the website that you can use to get there if you want to use this resource at home. Students then can click on Clever Badge Log-In and scan their QR Code that is in their DOT Binders. They will click on assignments and then choose the book they want to read or listen to.
*The only homework we have is reading homework. Our monthly reading goal is 400 minutes, which is only 20 minutes for 20 days. Reading Logs are due by Friday, November 8th.
*It is starting to get colder, please make sure your child brings their coat, hat and gloves for outside recess.
* We will be testing on Unit 3 Spelling words on Friday, November 1st.
* Spelling City website is https://www.spellingcity.com/users/2ndgradeces if you want to study spelling words at home.
THANK YOU!!

2nd Step
When you are assertive you stay calm and make eye contact with the person you are speaking to. This helps you get your point across and gets the adult to understand the problem you need help with.
If you are too passive you may just kick things around, are too shy and don't say anything. When you are passive the adult doesn't know how to help you and doesn't know what you need.
When you are aggressive you can be too harsh, too loud and an adult may not see that there is a different problem, they may see your behavior and you may get yourself in trouble in the process.
We talked about how you can be assertive in the classroom, at recess and at home to get what you need or want. Talk with your child about being assertive. I will be trying this with my own children when they whine to get what they want (anyone else have that problem?!)... instead I will remind them to be respectful, calm and clear with their wants and needs.
Have a great week!
