Hawk Highlights

January 22, 2021

Dear Friends and Families of the Hollys,

We have had a wonderful return to in-person learning at the Hollys! We are so grateful to see your children engaged in learning and re-connecting with peers and staff. We are proud of their resilience and perseverance. Joy permeates the climate in the Holly hawks’ nest! Despite the hurdles of 2020, our community is determined to grow our students as readers, writers, mathematicians, problem-solvers and thinkers. While we have much to celebrate, we are laser focused on the academic growth and social emotional development of every student. We value your partnership and support in the journey.

The Cherry Creek School District received a three-year grant to expand The Healthy Environments and Response to Trauma in Schools (HEARTS) program to all of our elementary self-contained programs, Overland feeder elementary schools, ECE and adaptive programs. The HEARTS framework is an equity-focused, whole-school approach to promote success and resilience for trauma-impacted youth. The HEARTS framework supports long-term individual and systemic change by creating school-wide literacy of the impact of trauma while embedding universal culturally responsive supports to foster resilience and success. Our trauma-informed leadership team in collaboration with the HEARTS trainers from Resilient Futures created a long-range plan for professional development and sustainable programming for the Hollys this year. We are inspired by this partnership. I will share resources from the HEARTS program in future newsletters. I have embedded two items in this newsletter: “Promoting Resilience During COVID-19” and “Self-Care Strategies”. I encourage you to reinforce these concepts in the home.

Believe it or not, we are already planning for the 2020-21 school year. Please help us get the word out to the families of incoming kindergarten students in the Hollys’ attendance area. It’s almost time to register for kindergarten! The Hollys’ kindergarten roundup begins February 22. Registration information can be found on the district website. If you have any questions, please contact our Holly Ridge registrar, Erin Malles, for more information at (720) 747-2400 or emalles@cherrycreekschools.org.

Please continue practicing our COVID protocols. Always wear a mask on school grounds, social distance and wash hands on a regular basis. These practices will help us stay in school together and reduce the chances of going remote. Thank you for helping us stay in school!

Together in education,

Molly Drvenkar

Wear Your Mask

Please wear a mask on campus at all times. Research and science show that wearing a mask is critical to slowing the spread of the virus. We require masks for all students, community members and staff regardless of state mandates. If you do not have a mask, we will provide a disposable mask for you. If you are unable to wear a mask, please contact the Principal or Assistant Principal to make alternate arrangements for student drop off and pick up. We appreciate your partnership in keeping our community safe.
