St. Mike's Matters - Thursday Notes

December 7th, 2017 Issue #12

Dear St. Michael Families,

Happy Advent! This beautiful season of hope and anticipation is here and being lived

throughout our classrooms. To guide us on our Advent journeys, Fr. Jim blessed our

student-made Advent wreathes and our classroom wreathes at MMO this week. We are

celebrating this beautiful season through classroom prayers, Friday masses, yesterday's Feast of St. Nicholas traditions, and Advent Reconciliation for grades 3-8. Please celebrate

mass with us tomorrow at 9:00 AM for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Additionally, our students are performing our annual Christmas program on December

14th at 7:00 PM in our gym. Please join us! All seniors in our parish are invited to our Senior Luncheon, including a special performance of the Christmas program at 1:00 PM on December 14th.

Mark your calendars! The tuition assistance deadline is fast approaching for the 2018-

2019 school year. All families who request tuition assistance for the 2018-2019 school

year are invited to apply for tuition assistance through the Fulcrum Foundation. The

application can be accessed at and the application

window closes on January 5, 2018. Please take the time to apply as soon as possible.

Both Fulcrum and St. Michael Parish School use the same application process and

timeline. By applying to Fulcrum, you are also applying for tuition assistance through our

school’s endowment. Tuition assistance will only be granted for next school year by

completing this application process.

Please note that tomorrow is a noon dismissal. As we conclude the first trimester

tomorrow, our teachers will be using the afternoon to prepare report cards.

Advent Blessings,

Connor Geraghty

School Commission Corner

The St. Michael School Commission is consultative and advisory in nature. Members meet once a month to advise and support Mr. Geraghty and Fr. Jim as they (Mr. Geraghty and Fr. Jim) form school policies to support the ongoing growth of our parish school. The St. Michael School Commission collaborates with the Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance Council and has liaisons from these councils attending the meetings.

Last evening, the St. Michael School Commission held their third meeting of the year.

The meeting focused on the following topics:

  • A presentation from Stewardship Development Director, Roberta McGill, regarding the S.M.A.R.T. auction, marketing, and enrollment

  • A principal’s report featuring highlights and updates from around the school (including school finance, stewardship, enrollment, and input gathering regarding marketing)

  • Action planning for a School Commission strategic planning project focused on highlighting the school to the wider parish

Our first Dollar Jump/Nickel Grab of the season is set for December 11th! Get your donations in for the S.M.A.R.T. Auction and Gala!

Get your donation items in! First Dollar Jump/Nickel Grab is December 11th! Every item donated earns your child a chance to earn dollar bills or grab a handful of nickels.

We are accepting items for our Silent Auction, Wall of Wine, Family Night Kid's Raffle, and Gift Cards.

Thank you!

Robotics Competition

We are very proud of all our students who put forth their best effort for our families, friends, fellow students, and guests. This first trimester, they spent endless hours working on their robots. The two top contenders were The Flash and Double Strike. The Flash included the team of Luke Rehberger, Stefan Foley, and Connor Horton. Double Strike included Simeon Cady, Nathan Miller, and Alec Forth. These two teams made it to the final Robot battle and The Flash went on to claim victory. Congratulations on the winning design and performance in the competition ring.

Give the gift of warm feet!

The Saint House leaders of St. Michael Parish School are organizing a one week sock drive. Teachers will be collecting new socks of any kind the week of December 11th - 15th. Any donation of socks is appreciated. The socks will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!
