April Showers...Bring May Flowers

Thank you for visiting our monthly newsletter for all teachers, parents, and community members of District 97. Each month, D97 teacher librarians collaborate to bring you useful information, and highlight some of the things our students are learning in our libraries.

We love to hear from you! This month's collaborating teacher librarians:

Laurie Conley lconley@op97.org Whittier

Sabrena Robinson srobinson@op97.org Mann

What's happening this month?

School Library Month See this information about what School Library Month is and the history of it. Celebrate your D97 School Libraries by advocating for us around the community. We help students navigate the internet, develop a love of reading, become responsible digital citizens and research about new information every day!

National Poetry Month Share in some of our favorites on Shel Silverstein's YouTube Channel or create your own poems using Scholastic's Poetry Engine.

Autism Awareness Month This lovely video can help explain autism to your children. Additionally, Sesame Street introduced Julia, a muppet with autism.

Earth Day, April 22nd: 50 Earth Day Activities for Kids

April is Financial Literacy Month! This website, TheMint.org has great resources about saving, donating, investing and spending. Check out one of these books at your library to learn about money. The story of money, is located in the non-fiction section, 332.4.

Want to learn more about being green? Take a look at these two great databases from the Oak Park Public Library to help you research conservation and the environment. All you need is your Oak Park Library Card! This year, D97 librarians have also purchased Kids Infobits - research Earth Day on this new database (ask your librarian for the password!).
