Kindergarten Newsletter ACES
Week Of February 12th
Highlights from last week....
We are ALL SET with the groundhog and Mother Nature playing mean tricks on us. The snow can stop anytime now!
We revamped our literacy stations to reflect more reading and more rigor. The children LOVE the new stations.
In Reader's Workshop, we focused on looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. We also introduced "Flippy Dolphin", which is when you come to a tricky word, you can flip the vowel sound. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great! Please keep reading those books that we have been sending home weekly with your child. Also, please practice the sight words that went home. We will be sending home updated lists as they master the ones they are currently on. The more sight words they know, the better readers they will become!
In Writer's Workshop, we started our writing in response to text. We also continued our "how to" writing.
In Math, we continued our unit on number bonds. I will attach a video to help you understand the math concept. We LOVE number bonds!!!

In phonics, we will focus on building words. We will be playing many word play games to help learn these skills.
In Math, we will be working on number bonds. This is a concept that we use to break numbers apart and put them together.
Our focus in science is animals and habitats. We have been reading several nonfiction books during our read aloud that focus on this topic. The children LOVE nonfiction books!

We have another busy week ahead of us, please continue reading with your child at home, practicing counting, letters and sounds! The at home practice is really paying off in the classroom.

Even with the snow day, we were able to get a bunch of learning in. Your children are doing an amazing job with their sight words. I will send home a copy of the next 50 words that they can practice at home.
Book orders were placed this weekend! Thank you for your support!
Thank you for all that you do!
A note from Mrs. Potter
Wednesday will be such an exciting day celebrating both 100’s Day and Valentine’s Day! The valentine boxes that have come in so far have been awesome and so creative!!
We are learning more and more reading strategies to use to help us become stronger readers!! Please keep practicing the sight words, as these words show up often in books!
Thank you for all that you do! :)
A note from Mrs. Marcoux
This week we will be celebrating the 100th day of school (forecast shows no snow!) and Valentine's Day on Wednesday. If you haven't already done so, please send in your child's decorated box and the mystery 100 day bag items. We have 23 students in our class. You can have your child sign the valentine's and we will hand them out on Wednesday. If you do not have any valentines or need a box, please let me know as soon as possible so I can help you.
Thank you to those parents who are donating to the party!
Enjoy your week.
A note from Mrs. Goldthwaite
WOW! What a great cake dance! Thanks to our PTO.
Our Book orders are coming in this week. If you ordered the Just right book order I will be sending that one this week to.
I think we are getting better with the sickness. Please have your son/daughter get rest and so they can enjoy February vacation.
Our new centers are going nicely. They are teaching us how to use each other to help learn and give rigor to our learning.
Please continue to support them with sight word flash cards, writing letters and numbers and always reading.
Thanks to Hunter D's family for our new crayons, wipes and glue sticks it is much appreciated.
A few things for my wish list: dry erase markers, klorox wipes, tissues and glue sticks.
