Jackson Jaguars ROAR
April 2021 Jackson Elementary School
Jackson Parents/Guardians,
Spring is finally here! The weather has been absolutely beautiful and after the year we have all had, isn't it nice to feel the warm sunshine and know that summer is around the corner?
We have some events coming up over the next two months such as, Read Across the World (read below for information), CMAS (State testing), Field Day, our virtual Band and Orchestra concert, our virtual 3rd grade Recorder concert, Science Day, and graduation. Look for those dates to come up soon. This time of year goes by fast, so let's all enjoy every bit that we can!
Read Across the World-April 9th
Friday, April 9th is our Read Across the World Day at Jackson. This is a tradition that we have upheld for over 9 years now. This year, we will be adding a virtual component where readers will be joining us from all over the world. To add some more fun to the week, we will be having dress up days throughout the week. (See the schedule below in Upcoming Dates.) I encourage our students to participate. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the office.
CMAS Testing for 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade-April 12-April 30
Students in 3rd and 5th grade will be taking English Language Arts, while 4th grader will be taking Mathematics. If you are interested in having your child take additional assessments (ie. 3rd and 5th grade-Math, 4th grade-English Language Arts), you will need to opt your child in for additional testing by filling out a form available in the school office.
Online 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will NOT be required to take any of the required CMAS tests UNLESS a parent/guardian opts their child(ren) in. If a student opts in for testing, they will need to join their grade level class, in person, on the designated testing dates and times (listed below) BEFORE Friday, April 9.
May 1-COS I LOVE YOU Clean-Up Day
Jackson Jaguars and Springs Journey Church (our Community Partners) will be joining together, once again, to help clean up the outside of Jackson Elementary on the morning of May 1, 2021.
This year, we will be repainting the blacktop area in order to provide more activities for our students during recess time. In addition, we will be picking up trash, pulling weeds, painting the Kiss N Go Lane curb, among other tasks to bring beauty to Jackson and our community. We REALLY hope to see you there!
Please continue to communicate with the front office at: (719) 328-5800 or the attendance line: (719) 328-5813 if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Sara Miller

Field Day-May 7
Field Day this year will be on Friday, May 7th. Like many other aspects of life since COVID19, field day will look different this year.
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be having their Field Day from 8:15 to 10:35.
- Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders will be having their field day from 10:40 to 2:10.
- There will be an ALL SCHOOL lunch just like any other day, but it will occur in the classrooms from 11:25 to 12:25.
- This year students will only be participating at a station with their class only.
- Unfortunately, due to our COVID-19 restrictions, parents/guardians will NOT be able to attend Field Day this year. (We hope this will change for next year.)
Many students look forward to this day all year! The purpose of Field Day is for students to play and compete, but mostly have fun!
Counseling Corner with Mrs. Ruiz
Jackson Parents/Guardians,
We have had a few calls from parents that students are not using kind words with one another. We are working diligently to teach our students ROAR behavior (Respectful, On task, Always Safe, and Responsible). I am going into classrooms to teach these skills, as well as meeting with students who are struggling. These are difficult times emotionally and financially for many families. Please encourage your children to be respectful and kind to each other by practicing modeling this behavior at home. We understand tensions are high, but if parents are yelling at each other or their children at home without a discussion about what happened later, then students will come to school and yell at peers. None of us are perfect, but we all need to create the type of world that we want to live in by treating each other respectfully. If tensions are high at home, sit down and talk to your children. Don't be afraid to apologize if you lose your cool. Kids need to understand that conflict is part of life, and that we can resolve things. Many students express fear and sadness when there are difficult conversations or situations at home. Help them understand that you still love them even when you are stressed out or they have made bad choices. We all need to work together as a team. Please feel free to contact me if you need support, resources or ideas for situations at home or at school. Also, let your child's teacher know if they are reporting students being unkind so we can address this in the classroom. Blessings to you and your family!
