ATHLETIC UPDATE
PIAA State Championship & Track Update
Senior Jason C. threw a huge personal best in the shot put the week before that advanced him to the state championship. Jason's throw of 52'8.5" is the second best throw in Springfield history behind John Shaeffer's school record of 55'8.75" in 1974. It was good enough to win a silver medal at the district championship and punch his ticket to states. Facing some nationally elite competition from across the state, Jason wasn't able to equal his previous mark but was thrilled to have had the chance to compete in the state's biggest circle against its top throwers.
Sophomore Julia M. continued her streak of "raising the bar" in the pole vault all season long. Julia broke the school record of 9'0" early in the season and established new marks of 10'6", 11'0", and finally 11'6" to earn a medal for eighth place at Shippensburg last weekend. Julia has been training at the Philadelphia Jumps Club with pole vault gurus Brian Mondschein and Talen Singer for almost 3 years now and her success is in evidence with her amazing performance this season. In only her sophomore, it's sure to be the first of many medals in Julia's track and field career.
Congratulations Senior Trey D.!
We want to give a special congratulations to Senior Trey D. for being selected as a High School Academic All American by US Lacrosse! This year’s selection process was much more exclusive than in years past and Trey is one of 15 students in the state of Pennsylvania! Trey’s commitment to academics, extracurricular activities, and athletics helped pave the way for this great honor! Trey continues to represent our school in such a great way, and we are extremely proud of his accomplishments!
