A Montessori Environment Where Young Children Explore, Learn and Create
WELCOME TO THE ELC
Dear ELC Families,
This is the first of our monthly newsletters - typically look for them mid-month.
In our ELC monthly newsletters we share information about the ELC and FSDB, updates from the classrooms, district and statewide opportunities for parents and other pertinent program information. You should be receiving regular updates from your child's teacher regarding your child and specific classroom activities.
As we begin our new school year I want to say thank you to all of you!
THANK YOU for your patience and respect for the rapidly changing environment as we strive to provide a safe learning environment for all. While many things that are not what we'd hoped for as we begin the 2021-22 school year, the one thing that remains the same is our devotion to the ELC students.
THANK YOU to everyone for:
- arriving on time
- making sure your child is ready for school - rested, fed and wearing comfortable clothes
- interacting with your child's teacher
- all of the fabulous school supplies and yummy snacks
GOALS for the first month of school
We have 4 goals for our first month of school
- Familiarizing the children with staff, classrooms and peers
- Presenting and practicing basic classroom routines and procedures
- Introducing new children to Montessori activities and re-introducing lessons to returning children
- Building or re-establishing rapport with you - our families. Nothing sets children up for success more than demonstrating to them that the most important people in their lives - both at home and school - are working together as a team.
COVID UPDATE
We are doing our best to keep the ELC sanitized and maintaining a healthy environment for your children. I know we all agree that the health and safety of our ELC staff, students and families is the most important priority right now.
The Delta variant of COVID continues to cause increased numbers of illness and hospitalizations.
THANK YOU for your patience and understanding as we work through these trying times. Picking your child up from school and keeping your child home while sick and for 24-hours without symptoms or fever-reducing medication is more important now than ever to prevent the spread of illness in the ELC. The ELC Health and Wellness Policy is included in this newsletter for you to review.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or your child's teacher.
Thank you,
Gail Strassel

The Hundred Board
Knobbed Cylinders
Stacking Blocks by Size
This work from the Sensorial area helps children build a concept of 3-dimensional size. By exploring and building with the cubes, Elena is building her perception and awareness of dimension - leading to an understanding of size in the environment. This work also helps develop her fine-motor coordination. As Elena works, she is discovering that her tower will stand if the base is bigger than the blocks she stacks on top. Learning through discovery is the basis of the Montessori approach - encouraging children to use concrete items to build abstract concepts.
