Do I Really Have To Go To School To Be A Director?
No, you don't have to go to school to become a director ,many have not, but it is greatly recommended to either go to film school (The American Film Institution) or a college and major in film making (NYU or UC).
Responsibilities for a Director
- directing camera man to set camera at right angle
- give direction to an actor and actress
- encourage the crew member to work efficiently
- search superb location, select casting, arrange lightening
- conduct rehearsals before film production
- managing the shots according his own storyboard
- make his movie success
- coordinating producer so that appropriate scene would be taken
- choosing actor, actress and other stage member for his movie
- coordinating editor so that real touch could be given to movie
Who do they report to and work with?
Directors report to their producer and they work with everyone since they are the ones mostly representing the film as their creation. The director works closely with the assistant director because what ever the director may miss the assistant director goes over it. The director also works with the casting director because the casting director couldn't make a over all decision without the director's input.

Tim Allen was the director of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Steven Spielberg directed the Color Purple, Hook and many more. These directors also won many awards including the DGA awards which is an award given to directors.
Their isn't any schooling required to be a director but it a recommended. With a little of schooling you have a better chance of getting jobs. You are even more familiar with the film industry.
