What is a poetry slam?
A poetry slam is a competition between poets who are not merely reciting their poems but infusing them with life. It is a dramatic performance with the poet clearly illustrating the theme behind the words of the poem while engaging the audience.
Expectations for Participants
You must see Mrs. Severns in the library to sign up in advance or cancel.
Poem must be an original piece written by the contestant.
The recitation of the poem must be under three minutes in length.
Music is allowed in the performance as long as the lyrics can be clearly heard.
Poetry must be school appropriate in language and content. Ask Mrs. Severns if unsure.
You must stay for the entire event.Prizes will be awarded for the top three poets and all participants will be provided free pizza!
