A School of Fish
A group of lions is called a pride. A flock of geese is a referred to as a gaggle. So what do you call a bunch of fish? That’s right, . . . a school. That is exactly what we have at Oakview! We now have a school of “fish” in all fourth and fifth grade classrooms. There are no aquariums or water but there are hundreds of fish-shaped desks!
With funding provided by Greenville County Schools, all fourth and fifth grade classes have now been outfitted with “beta” desks. These 21st century work tables have two wheels on one side for quick room rearrangement as well as a removable “maker space” tray underneath. In addition to the desks, each classroom received new rectangular tables and a U shaped table for small group work with the teacher.
Over recent months, I have updated ACORN readers about improvements to the learning environment within Oakview’s building. Major projects have included LED lights, HVAC replacement, touch screen flat panels in all classrooms, and now new furniture in fourth and fifth grade classes. All of these (and future furniture projects) reflect GCS’s commitment to improving the learning environment for all students and to make the workplace more professional and productive for educators.
When you cross paths with a GCS School Board member or Central Office administrator, please share our gratitude for the investment they are making into the daily school experience for our students and staff. We are fortunate to be part of a forward thinking and progressive school district!

What if my child's grandparent cannot attend?
There are many grandparents who are unable to attend. If so, ask them to write and mail a letter! The letter will be delivered to your child during the celebration on Nov. 26. Mail the letter to:
Oakview Elementary
c/o Your Child's Teacher
515 Godfrey Rd.
Simpsonville, SC 29681
Important Information about Letter Writing:
- Include your child's teacher in the c/o line of the address.
- Write your child's name on the outside of the envelope so the teacher knows which child will receive it.
- If grandparents cannot write, you can! Write and share a special story about their grandparent.
Due to the large number of grandparents who will attend this event, parents should avoid making plans to come in place of missing grandparents. This allows us to focus our attention on the grandparents who are able to attend that day. Thank you for your understanding.
We look forward to celebrating Grandparents on November 26th!
