Welcome!
This is an update of new books that have hit our library shelves.
Included in this week's offerings are a couple of great Fiction titles that will support the new History Syllabus with more on the way! A great picture book which gives an insight into Asperger's Syndrome, another for our new arrivals and one for those quieter children that disappear among the more assertive in our classrooms. The books are displayed in the new book display and will be available for borrowing next week after everyone has had a chance to look at them. Reserve your copy now!
I have also added a useful and free ebook website for K-2.
Christmas books are now on display as you enter the library and are available for borrowing. There are some great new Aussie titles so have a browse!
Happy Reading!

1844: Do You Dare- The Last Horse Race by James Moloney
AUSTRALIAN HISTORICAL FICTION
'Gripping narrative, memorable characters and steeped in historical references, this book brought history to life and is sure to engage girls and boys alike.
Based in Brisbane in the days of very early settlement, 'The last horse race' is an adventure packed novel with young Toby as the main protagonist. Join Toby and his mates as they take on villains and crooks, all in the name of freedom.'The Bookworm -http://www.thebookworm.com.au/2014/06/do-you-dare.html
1841: Do You Dare- Bushranger Boys by A. Lloyd
'Join the three boys as they hole up in a secret hideout, rescue a puppy and meet a real live bushranger. Action-packed and based on real life in the 1840s, The Bushranger’s Boys wouldn’t let me go. I had to know how it would all turn out, especially if the bushranger would escape with his life and the dastardly Captain Ross could be beaten.
The Do You Dare? series is designed to parallel the already popular Our Australian Girl books and it is shaping up to be riveting. The first two tales are action-packed historical adventures - and not just for boys.' Kid's Book Review http://www.kids-bookreview.com/2014/02/review-1841-bushrangers-boys-do-you.html
Kevin Thinks by Gail Watts
Written by a teacher and mother of a son with aspergers syndrome this is an insightful and positive book containing the message that thinking differently is okay and indeed many of the great achievers in this world have AS.
My Two Blankets by Irena Kobald
Cultural Identity
A great Picture book for our New Arrivals.'A young, cartwheeling girl leaves her war-ravaged homeland and arrives in Australia - we do not know how, but she [miraculously] arrives and begins an achingly slow integration.
Everything is strange here. The people are strange. The food is strange. Even the wind is strange.
She doesn't speak the language, and all around her is a waterfall of bizarre sounds - cold and intimidating and lonesome.
To cope, the girl wraps herself in a beloved blanket and takes comfort in the sounds and words and memories of her homeland. Sometimes, she wants to stay under this blanket forever, and never go out again.
One day, while out at the park with her auntie, a local girl smiles at her. A little scared, she doesn't know what to do. The local child waves but the girl walks away.
A few days later, they meet again, and the local girl speaks to her in a language she doesn't understand - that cold waterfall of sound with no meaning. But gradually the water warms and the girl begins to feel happy inside.
Over the weeks, her new friend teaches the girl new words. Sometimes they laugh together - and very soon, the new language doesn't sound so sharp and cold any more. The girl realises, she's weaving a brand new blanket - new memories, new words, new sounds, new life.' Kids' Book Review
