We currently have a great opportunity for a Medical Assistant (MA) in our Poway clinic to support the Gastroenterology department. In this particular role, the MA will support about 80% administrative and 20% clinical with direct patient care.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Thoroughly and accurately obtains chief complaint and pertinent information from patient. Communicates information to health care provider.
- Ensures and facilitates patient flow.
- Responsible for creating procedure packets for each patient scheduled for procedures, including updating authorization approvals as needed.
- Responsible for coordination of medication working with a department RN
- Ensure patient calls are returned and answer questions relating to upcoming procedures, medications, test results, etc.
- Observes patient and reports changes in patient condition.
- Documents patient care, response to care
- Prepares lab and X-ray results for physician review.
- Sets up and re-stocks exam room.
- Correctly files information in patient charts.
- Will be responsible for insurance verification.
- Will process insurance authorizations
Qualifications:
A qualified candidate will meet the following requirements:
- High School diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Certification as an MA (National, American Association or CA state cert) or provide proof of board date highly desirable.
- Current CPR certified
- 2 years clinical back office experience preferred. EHR experience
- Strong customer service, written & verbal communication, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, injection techniques, basic CPR and phlebotomy
- Ability to perform vital signs, injections, CPR and phlebotomy skills. Properly use thermometer, blood pressure equipment and injection/blood draw medical supplies
- Ability to prioritize tasks, problem solve, recognize, and seek assistance from RN, NP or MD based on patient acuity
